For those interested in strength training...

For those of you who are interested in strength training instead of just bodybuilding, or have the ambition to combine both strength training and bodybuilding. Or maybe you just want to learn how to maximize their bench, squat, deadlift, overhead press, etc. I have one large piece of advice for you for you...

GET OUT OF THIS SECTION. There is virtually no limit on misinformation in this section from "experts" who really have no idea what they are talking about when it come to strength training. The bad advice runs rampant, and is only going to limit your progress/potential. Now, there are definitely a handful of people who know their stuff in this section, but those handful of people can't police all the bad information being spread around in a lot of these threads. Also, many of those people who DO know their stuff also frequent the sections dedicated to strength sports so they are great sources over there too. If you want to learn about strength training, get out of this section and do yourself a favor and go learn from people who know what they are talking about.

This thread is not intended to offend anyone, it's similar advice I would give to people interested in bodybuilding asking questions in the powerlifting/strongman section. I just see a lot of people here interested in strength asking questions to people who don't have the same goals or knowledge as many other people in the strength oriented sections (powerlifting/strongman/olylifting).

EDIT: link to Powerlifting/Strongman section http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33

Also, I recommend looking through some journals. One thing that helped me was to follow some guys in their journals and watch them progress. It's hard to argue proven results based on solid programs.

ngolsen and Farley1324 are two guys that really inspired me...

ETA3: Awesome. Did not ever think to even look for a power lifting section.

Well then who should I seek for advice? My workout partner is really legit ( all natural and competed for mr. Michigan) buy we hardly get to workout together anymore. I kinda lost the hang of it after almost a two month break. So id really like to get some guidance with getting those workouts that hit that sweet spots and optimize my body comp.

no doubt you've got to sift through the advice given here and take what works for you and make it work for you even better by keeping learning. just as the first post said try to get as much info from people who know what they talking about.

I'd like to add though "some" people who are major experts who are trying to hype their workouts are not always out to give the best advice. they're out for money just keep that in mind while researching :-)

yeah I had made the assumption that the people with good credentials that are boasting about their workout are only in it for the profit gains, or for future profit gains. I think that some people steep pretty low when they do that but that is just me. is there anyone in this section or thread that would like to help critique my workout or give advice of my workout just because they would like to help people out? ( and if someone does help please don't feed me bull**** like a magical program where your bench 100# more in 3 days)

I know rite? I clearly have no credentials so nobody's at risk of blindly following my ideas, instead it will lead them to go "guy's probably batty" and go do their own research.

Yeah though there are some decent advices that goes around here but its better to get them from a more experienced type of person
The problem for a beginner is that they don't know the difference between good advice and terrible advice. That's why this section, among others, is terrible for strength advice. Over in the strength sections of this website there are more than enough knowledgeable lifters to police the bad advice and also to offer different opinions/insight/theory on strength training so you can learn about all different types of strength programs so you are able to pick one that best suits your goals and the type of lifting you want to do.
There is no such thing as 'strong enough'

Most of the posts on this site suck, regardless of section.

The onus is at least in good part on the individual to learn who to listen to. The internet is no different than other mediums: books, mags, etc.

Since this is a bodybuilding website, people should realize that most advice will be in that context unless otherwise specified.

Ultimately people will learn through their own experiences. it isn't the job of those posting here to "save" the heathens.
Who was this love of yours?

Yes, and how about we also stop skewing every piece of advice for bodybuilders with powerlifting schemes.

Isolation exercises are not the enemy.

I'll have to check the strength section out more, some questions do belong over there yes, but there are plenty of exercises that would not typically get covered over there, ie: core work, tabata, calves-sh*t like that, that one would get hopefully better info over here.

The programs section is kind of lacking from what I've seen, alot of SS talk but not much about GVT, FST-7, wave loading and other real programs.

Have seen a little Wendlers 5/3/1 there so thats good.
