I just happened to wander into Hibbett Sports today and found that they were clearing out their 'metal' hex db's. Unfortunately, they only had 70's, 75's, and 95's.
70's @ $22.97 each
75's @ $24.97 each
95's @ $30.97 each
That's roughly .33/lb. If you have a Hibbett's, you might wanna see if they too are selling them. The manager said he thinks they're replacing them w/ the rubber covered hex db's. They were $1.25/lb.

OUCH!
I had to pull around the back of the store to pick them up. I was gonna help the guy but when I looked in the doorway it was long and cluttered w/ all sorts of crap, w/ no DB's in sight. I assumed he'd have some sort of cart. So, I just stay put at my car and straighten them as he brings them. When there were only 2 DB's left, the 95's, he asks if I can help him by grabbing one of them. lol. I said, "sure." I wasn't sure if their insurance policy would appreciate that or not. I know that if I was their insurer I wouldn't be too happy about it. They had broken down boxes scattered everywhere. You were constantly looking for your next step. WHAT A MESS!
I went to Walmart later and when I came back to my car - it was ridin' loooow! lol
I would've been TICKLED if they'd had a greater variety. I did leave a 100 and 15 behind, since they only had one of each. Maybe I should've grabbed them, esp the 100. Heck, it's probably still there.
What's so funny is they'd marked them down from about $1/lb to about .50/lb and that was the price I first noticed. I thought, "Not bad, not bad." Then I saw that $24 price sticker stuck on that 75....As Ahnold would say, I said, "I'll be back." lol. (I was waiting on Sears to replace some belts on my car)

Well, the closest one to me didnt have any. I checked it out last weekend.
So I was kind of bummed. I hoped to at least get a set of 80s or something.
So, I went on vacation this week and stopped into a Hibbett in Savannah on the way back. There is a 35lb single for $11.97 and a 45 lb single for $14.97. I asked if they had the heavier ones in the back, the manager said no, but the store in Hinesville Georgia had some. The manager called and found out that store had 55s, 60s, 80s, 85s, 90s and 100s or something like that, plus a single here and there-70, 90, etc.
Well it was too far out of the way for me to drive, since we had plans w/ friends as soon as we got home.
I got home, got online and called all the Hibbetts within an hour in any direction. Bingo, I found one that has a good supply left, including 100s (for $32.97 each, no less!).
Thanks again for the tip! I plan to pick up some today.
Oh and anyone checking out this thread may find the store locator useful

I got all of those plus another set of 45s for a friend for $160.
Ridiculous.
29 cents a pound!
I am still scouting other locations for more and for matches to make pairs for the 80 and 90 I have.
I got a decent deal on used stuff the other day off craigslist as well. The guy was selling a York olympic bar, about 200 lbs of York plates, dumbbell handles and an adjustable bench for $50. A friend of mine wanted all the small weights (25lb on down) and the dumbbell handles so we split it $25 each. Then I sold the bench (bc I have 2 already) to a friend for $20.
So, I got a York olympic bar and 2 York 35lb plates for $5.Last edited by buffbrown21; 07-05-2008 at 05:03 AM.

If your local Hibbetts does not have what you're looking for in terms of discounted plates or dumbbells, ask the clerk to contact their stores in nearby towns. Apparently, they have trucks that tavel from store to store to deliver new stock. If another store has what you need, they'll load it on the truck and deliver it to the store nearest you rather than you having to drive to the other store(s). Given the current price of gas, this could be a real money saver. It worked for me.
