Yesterday before work i really needed to get some gel insoles before work because i walk and carry **** for 8 hours. My feet had been killing me the last week. So i stop by walmart and while looking at them i realize i forgot my wallet at home. I decide screw it im gunna take the $8 insoles and i guess someone saw me on cam. i was stopped by 2 security guards with the insoles in my pockets.
So they took me in the back took down my info and called the police. I was cuffed, walked out and put in the back of the police car. The cop then wrote me citation for petty theft. Fukcing ridiculous...all for $8. Has anyone ever had to go to court for this? I have a clean record so im hoping the judge will just give me community service or something, most people dont even get arrested for such a small item. FUuuu

yah i just got the cheapest ones to fit in my vans. But i cant believe they went as far as to arrest me for this. The LP guys were taking it all seriously and the police actually cuffed me and walked me out of the store. I was facepalming the whole time, 4 guys getting paid $10+ an hour to charge a guy whole stole $8 worth of merchandise. they actually lost money.

I don't condone theft at all but people really need to learn their rights....you could of walked straight out the door and no employee/secutiry guard could lay a hand on you, only ask you to stop. They can't force you to stay in the store either.

lawlz
They didn't lose money. Sure they had multiple people getting paid $10 an hour to get their $8 back, but you're going to get fined pretty hard from Walmart alone that pays for the LP's work.
THEN you go to court and actually get punished.
EDIT: They can't charge you for stealing until you leave the building. THEN they can stop you and bring you back inside. If they stopped you while inside, it's just a 'concealing' charge, which is almost nothing which is why they like to wait for you to exit.
By the way, I was being interviewed to be an LP at a Lowe's hardware store in PA close to this time last year until I decided I wasn't ready to move to another state.

ya OP i know $8 is little but i hear that walmart loses tons and tons of money each year from shop lifters, even tho they make a sh*t load already but if you think they should let u slide because its only $8 then everyones goona start stealing $8 item and get a slap on the wrist and walmart is goona lose money because the $8 adds up.
ahh should listen to this guy, once u get out of the store the security cant do sh*t to u.500+......

again, i dont condone theft at all, but you do need to know your rights.
security cant do shiit to you even if you're in the store.
retail security is all about prevention. they are borderline helpless if someone decides to steal anyway. they cant stop you from leaving, get in front of you if you try and leave, touch you in anyway, lock any door that prevents you from leaving, etc.
think of it this way. just because you stole from their employer doesn't give them the right to kidnap you. they can ask you to come to the back room under your own free will, but you could easily just smile right in their face and walk out and they cant do anything except call the cops and try to find out who you are through video.👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻

More than likely you will get find around $150 from Walmart before the court date even starts. Then you will go to court, and get a 'Not allowed on any _____ property for 24 months' charge, a little probation, and a small court fine to pay for their time.
But then of course it is on your record, and you will have to wait that "24 months" to pay several hundred to get it expunged off of your record.
All for $8.
