Actually worked both bars over before reading this. I saturated a washcloth with CLR, wiped it onto the bar a bit at a time, let it sit for a minute, wiped it off with another hot washcloth, and then went to work with a stiff nylon brush made for cleaning grout.
I repeated this a time or two. At the end I wiped it down one last time with a clean cloth and WD-40ed it. Looks outstanding. It is actually cleaner and shinier then my regualr bar at this point.
The bar has a darker color than I was expecting. I was expecting it to look stainless steel-like.

Dude, let's see pics.
The bars originally had a dark covering, akin to gun bluing. You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Since there is no Milo barbell club, I thought this thread would suffice. This is my new 1916 Milo Triplex set.

Yes, one half of the hemisphere holds shot and the other half is plate loaded so you get the best of both worlds! It was a patented idea in 1908 by Alan Calvert, the founder of Milo Barbell. Milo was the first commercial barbell company in the US and the Triplex model is quite rare. After 1919 they only made the Duplex which was all plate loaded and got rid of the shot chamber.

The photo shows only part of one plate. If the seller adds more photos, I might be interested... depending on how the bidding goes. I'm going to ask the seller to post photos that show both sides the two plates. On ebay, if somethings isn't shown there's usually good reason the seller doesn't want you to see it.

Anybody know any info on this single york I picked up at play it again sports? I thought I should get it because it was 59 cents a lb but they didn't have another one to match so I thought I would just use it on my leg curl machine. The letter K looks different from the other york stuff I have seen. The back also does not look milled like my old york plates. I just want to know if this is a knockoff or something? Thanks.

Made in the last 15 years or so and probably made in China. Not vintage.

Other than the Milos, I can't think of anything that I have heard about. Someone over at IH mentioned a French dumbbell that might have pre-dated the 1902 shot loading canister bell. He described it as a canister shaped bell that was plate loaded (As I understood, plates went inside the can, instead of shot like Milo's). Alan Calvert was always patenting his new devices so presumable they were somewhat new. It seems like the Triplex might be the first hybrid bell that combined the old shot loading system with the new plate technology.
There were other dumbbells that were plate loaded but in a globe shape, like the go-go dumbbells. But they didn't have an outer globe shell like the Triplex and Duplex.()---() York Barbell Club #22 ()---()
