I was just wondering if this is normal. I've been lifting for ages, but I've never used machines with calories burned display.
Anyway, I'd been rowing for 20 minutes (1-3 level) and I spent only 70 calories!!! It's less than a banana . Is this normal? The machine looks rather new and I doubt it's broken already. Do these displays lie?
Another thing (not a question, just a conclusion), I always do rope jumping as cardio. I know that commercials say that one can burn up to 600 calories in 1 hour, but I've never believed in this. My logic told me that average rope jumper burns up to 200 calories in 1 hour. Now, I wonder how much (or to be precise, how little) calories I've been burning in the past months.

Who uses a row machine??
Nah i mean that sounds a LITTLE low, but is probably around right... You're not using as many muscles and thus is less effective.
That said, if you are in search of the MOST EFFECTIVE cario exercise, row machine obviously will not be up there. Running is pretty top tier in as the King of Cardio, as to be expected. (obviously depending on how hard you go.) I go pretty hard and average about 100 calories per 10min running. Before when I ran really hard (interval sprints and such...) I'd get even more burned. Just use common sense, the more your exhaust yourself, more calories burned.
Regarding jumping rope, 200 calories for 1 hour?? lol seriously? I'd estimate it's even more than 600 calories for an hour of constant jumping rope. Again... who the **** jumps rope for an hour????? I'm in top cardio shape in the summer (run 6 miles a day) and I couldn't last more than 20-30 min WITH BREAKS jumping rope.
HiiT is the best cardio imo.

It's winter and I had to do either rowing or bike or running. I hate running so I chose rowing machine. If you row in a right manner then your legs, abs and back work. Even the hands. Don't believe me? Try rowing for 20 minutes. Prior to that watch at youtube how to row properly. You will die after 20 mins .
Regarding HIIT, I use HIIT (sprints) when I can sprint outside. It's the only way I will run. In winter, I do indoors cardio exercises.
Regarding rope jumping, I said 200 calories in 30 minutes, not 1 hour . Anyway, like you couldn't jump for 30 minutes, I enjoy jumping, much much much more than running. There's a trick - watch TV or online show while you rope jump . You save time and won't get wet/sick/hurt/bitten...
Anyone using rowing machine as cardio?
