Although I will say when I played GTA 4 on my buddy's pc, he had the controller on the side and used it for vehicle driving, but would put the controller in his lap and switch back to keyboard when he hopped out of the vehicle.

Never had any gym take issue with me using chalk and I'd call most of them fitness centers rather than gyms. I keep it in a ziploc bag big enough to fit each hand in so I don't make a mess and try not to leave the joint looking like the floor of a bakery.

My advice: find another gym.

I can definitely see how a mixed-goal gym, i.e. bb, powerlifting, crossfitting, etc, would want to avoid chalk all over the equipment.
