Does anyone know how to pop a rib back in place?

Was doing Leg Presses and went a bit too far compressing my knees against my rib cage,..I think I dislocated a rib. Doesn't feel sharp or broken,..just uncomfortable with slight pain while training. Wonderin g if anyone ever popped their own rib back in place! Thanks!

I don't want to worry you too much but my wife is a nurse and says don't do that. You should get to a doc as you could puncture an organ.

I suggest the doc... Really... Sooner than later...

I pop my mum's first rib back in for her quite frequently. You would know if it has subluxed/dislocated as there would be an obvious bump on that side that shouldn't be there (head of rib). When you apply a bit of pressure it will move up and down. My mum is hypermobile so while her joints (and mine) pop out easily...nothing tears, so they are easy to put back in. If you are not hypermobile, you probably will have torn something, in which case don't touch it! You can do more damage. I have also had some physio training so I know where I am pushing. I would see physio/chiro. Also ask them to check you over. if you are hypermobile you are at risk of dislocating other joints such as shoulders (especially with heavy incline bench and flys).

If you can't feel a bump you may have just strained your intercostal muscles.
The more I learn, the more I realize there is to learn.

Best advice. Most offices have time for injuries like this. If not, find a new chriropractor. Good luck with it.

You may have torn an Intercostal muscle. they run between the ribs. They will give you pains while expanding your diaphram. Maybe this has happened?

If you popped a rib out, you wouldn't be casually talking about maybe or maybe not, you'd know. The next morning will tell you... always hurts more the next day, once imflammation has set in.

No medical insurance? Then go to the emergency room. After you see the triage nurse, ask to speak to a social worker to apply for charity care to assist you in paying the bill. Please don't try and "pop it back in" yourself. Seriously.

What exactly do you tell the chiropractor to do? i went to two chiropractors and the one popped my back and said it was fixed, but we didnt pay for that one, and the other said theyd have the traps and such a few times to get it tender and then he could get in and fix it. theres another chiropractor in town and the building looks more legit hah, so im planning on going there next

Whatever you are thinking about, you should really get it looked at professionally if you think it might be dislocated or cracked or anything abnormal.

A few of years ago I had a manway cover of an oil tank pivot on the remaining bolt as I was entering the tank. It dropped right on my lower ribs and pinched me in the opening. I had to be dragged out. Anyway, the x-rays (That were read by an employer paid physician) came back negative. My ribs were BENT in and it was very painful. (We're talking a couple of weeks sleeping in my recliner and 6 months before the pain was "gone") Even now, almost 3 years later, when I push on that side on those ribs it's sensitive... and I have a pretty high tolerance for pain.

My point is, get it looked at... by a physician of your choosing. You could spare yourself some serious wasted time and minimize your downtime.

    Good luck to you.

I Just realized this thread is over a year OLD!!! I guess this makes me one of those who have posted without READING the dates of original posting!!!! D'OH!!!
