My first vote is for Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate.
It mixes well with water or milk. Mixes best with a shaker, but a fork is fine too.
Flavor is pretty good. Smooth enough, no aftertaste.
Cost is very reasonable. We buy it in the 10lb bag cause both my husband and myself use it.
I also really love Isopure, but it's a little more pricey than ON.~Missy: Loving wife to my super sexy husband (MT_fitness) and mommy to three beautiful girls.

Ok - So most of the time I go for old tried and true (Iso-Elite from Dymatize etc etc) - but recently I had the chance to try something a little new so I thought I would stick up a review.
Name of Protein Powder: Cellucor IsoPro Ultra Lean Whey (click to see link)
What makes it so special?
Mixability?
Mixes very well, no clumps - even if only mixed with a spoon in water
Texture?
Not too grainy at all. Also has these crunchy berry bits in it which I really like
Flavour?
I am the first to admit I am, primarily, a chocolate fan. But I got the berries and cream and I have to say - I am hooked! It has a yummy, not-to-sweet berry flavour and is really, really yummy mixed with milk and orange recoup-goo.
Cost?
2.98 lb = $54.89 on bb.com (see link above)
Other Info?
Per serve - 120 cal, 4g carb, 26g protein
Overall: 8.5/10

Name of Protein Powder: Biochem 100% Whey in Chocolate
What makes it so special?
Mixability? Mixes very well.. makes a nice pudding with water too! Never any clumping.
Texture?
It's a cross between a flour like texture and sugar like texture.
Flavour?
AMAZING! Best chocolate flavor I've had hands down. Tastes like brownie batter!
Cost?
20 bucks for almost 2 pounds at ********
Other Info?
It's all natural- sweetened with fructose and stevia. Only has 4 grams of sugar and carbs, 100 calories, 20 grams of protein.

Kaizen
Name of Protein Powder: Kaizen 100% Whey Isolate Decadent Chocolate
Mixability? Mixes very well
Flavour?
It tastes yummy when mixed with milk or as a smoothie with berries, but when mixed with water it just tastes like sweet water (drinkable but kinda nasty). I also would like it to be more chocolatey, but I would buy it again.
Cost?
39 bucks for 4.4 lbs at costco (Canada only i think)
Other Info?
-per 41g: 150 Calories, 0.5g fat, 1 carb, 35g protein
-sweetened with stevia and splenda
Overall: 8/10 (although I havent tried many different kinds)

Name of Protein Powder: Gaspari MyoFusion - Chocolate (click to see link)
What makes it so special?
Mixability?
Pretty good considering it is a blended protein...
Texture?
A little more grainy than your typical whey, once again, due to the fact it is a blend.
Flavour?
Does have a 'unique' chocolate flavour (doesn't SCREAM chocolate), and can take time to get used to, but once you get used to it - yummy!
Cost?
5 lb = $38.89 on bb.com (see link above)
Other Info?
Good mix of different proteins - whey, egg and milk.
Per serve (36g) - 157.5 cal, 3g fat, 5g carb, 25g protein

PHD Pharma Whey
I have strawberry and Chocolalte flavours
What makes it so special? I can make hot choc with it
Mixability? really easy, no lumps
Texture? silken
Flavour? The strawberry is immense but sweet especially if you take it as a shot instead of a drink. Chocolate has that diet taste that any diet choc flavour thing has but still fine.
Cost? 2lbs= £15
Other Info? 20g scoop, 100 cals, 20g protein, 1.7carbs“[Luke:] I can’t believe it. [Yoda:] That is why you fail.”

:-)
Thank you for this thread, I have gathered some good info.
I use a "plant protein" from Rollin Oats, which is a whole food store in Florida. I have tried a few plant proteins, they taste good, all natural, low carbs etc etc etc. Only down side is that they are hard to mix. Def need a blender ball in it. It mixes WAY better with water, but sometimes I like to add almond milk to it! :-)

Something for the Aussie members
Name of Protein Powder: SynTec - SixPack, Jamacian Chocolate (click to see link)
What makes it so special?
Mixability?
Shocking! As a primarily casein powder with lots of added ingredients, it really doesn't mix well... I don't mix it in water - usually only use it in oats (takes persistence to get it to mix in), or blended in with other ingredients in a hand blender
Texture?
Very fine/ light powder - so a warning: do not take spoonfuls direct into your mouth..!! It doesn't dissolve and you'll likely choke... (yes, personal experience)
Flavour?
Very, very yummy... Jaffa flavoured....
Cost?
Bit costly - > 1.5kg (3.3 lb) = $95 (AUD)
Other Info?
Ingredients: Lots of good things - per 28g scoop:

Today I started on Myofusion Vanilla. I ordered 5lbs of this and I'm really glad I did because it is fantastic. It is easily mixed, and brings a nice thick milk texture to the milk I added it to, not quite milkshake, but not quite milk. The flavor is really good. I quite like it... it reminds me of vanilla cake a bit. It was 38.89 for 5 lbs here. I think it's a good mix of proteins, while being low in calories and lower in carbs. I don't have to use three scoops of it to get my serving in either (which can be gross). It also kept me full for quite some time. I drank it for breakfast as I was on the run (had to work three horses, massage two others, and longe mine) this morning, and I was fine all the way to lunch! I'm about to drink a pre bed shake now after working out.

I'm almost thru my first tub of BSN Lean Dessert Whipped Vanilla Flavor. Thus far love it and I'm willing to try some of the other flavors to expand my palette more.
What makes it so special?
All around great taste. You can add many different things to it such as fruit, nuts, seeds, whatever have you and it still taste great without that Whey flavor that makes you nauseated after a while.
Mixability?
Mixes pretty well, however before you add your add in ingredients makes sure you shake up powder and liquid cause it will clump.
Texture?
Thick like a milk shake
Flavour?
Full of it. Whipped Vanilla is the perfect name for it. It taste exactly like what it is called.
Cost?
Not too bad...however there are probably cheaper ones out there.
Other things? Added extra-special-ingredients?
My favorite mixture is making it into my meal replacement shake.
I throw some skim milk, banana, peanut butter, and flaxseed DELICIOUS!!

I definitely would have to go with Optimum Nutritions Platinum Hydrowhey in the chocolate flavor. It is so smooth that you can mix it with just a spoon in water... You dont even need a shaker. The flavor is awesome especially considering that it is just straight protein isolate. The only thing that I dont like is the price the cheapest lg jug I can find is usually around 50 bucks.. They also place enzymes in the formulation to help with the absorbtion of the protein into your body....

I have 2 favorites...
VP2 Whey Isolate by AST Sports Science
What makes it special? It's REALLY clean as far as ingredients and formula goes. It's pure hydrolyzed isolated whey protein, 0 grams of sugar, 1.5 grams of carbs per serving, no aspartame, and absolutely delicious (I really like the vanilla flavor best)
Mixability? Great with milk (I drink mine with almond milk) and great with water. Mixes perfectly
Texture? Creamy. But not heavy.
Flavor? Absolutely delicious. Again, no sugars, no aspartame, so this is somehow accomplished really well.
Cost? Not great. Retail price is $43.72 through the website (and I'm pretty sure that's only a 2 lb bucket. But through BB.com you can buy it for $31.99 PLUS they'll throw in their multivitamin bottle (MultiPro 32x - 100 caplets) for free, which are pretty good. (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/as...eyisolate.html).
My other favorite is
Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein (Cookies and Cream)
What makes it special? It's tasty, cheap, and effective. By far the most solid all-around protein I've encountered
Mixability? Also great with milk (I drink mine with almond milk) and great with water. Mixes perfectly
Texture This particular flavor (cookies and cream) has little tiny particles of cookie mixed in the texture. I personally like it.
Flavor Very tasty. Tastes like I'm having a cheat meal.
Cost This is probably the biggest driving factor. Is super economical. A 5 lb bucket will last me a while, and it's totally worth the money $42.99 through BB.com (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html)Last edited by Emma-Leigh; 05-12-2010 at 02:55 PM. JayRobb whey protein
I give it a "10" in everything except price..it's $$$ IMO but WORTH it it's SO yummy!. I also love that it is from hormone free dairy and that it is sweetened with stevia as opposed to sucralose.
Have only tried the vanilla flavor but heard the chocolate is awesome too. I mix mine with frozen berries and unsweetened vanilla almond milk ::drooling::

Name your Favourite Protein Powder!
Syntrax Nectar- Vanilla Bean Torte
What makes it so special?
Hands down, this is the best tasting powder I've ever had. There's literally tiny specks of "vanilla bean" mixed in. The taste is outstanding, and it has great stats, too. I've also noticed better recovery time, after switching to this protein.
- Mixability?
Mixes pretty good, although, not as thouroughly as Matrix does. I've found that using a fork really helps to mix. Much better than most powders in terms of soluabiltiy. - Texture?
Smooth and creamy. Even in water (after mixing ofcourse!) Dry, it's very similar to flour. - Flavour?
I've only tried the Vanilla Bean Torte, but MAN, is it declicous!!! - Cost?
A little pricier than what I usually pay... I got it on a whim at Vitamin Shoppe (would normally purchase it from bb.com) for $34. The container is 2.04 lbs, with 36 servings. I think the cost for that size on bb.com is around $28? Still not bad compared to other Isolates. - Other things? Added extra-special-ingredients?
Well, one scoop is only 90 calories, with zero fat and carbs. The protein content is very impressive for such a low calorie count, coming in at 23 grams per scoop.Burke Irish Dancer, National's Qualifyer

Mixability? Very good
Texture? Very good
Flavour? Very good. I stick to Vanilla because the flavor works with more recipes.
Cost? $19.99 for 2lbs
Other things? Added extra-special-ingredients?
-Added L-Glutamine
-Free of hormones, antibiotics and BSEI won't stop until I conquer my body and mind.

My favorite is, unfortunately, too high in calories & carbs vs. protein content. It's Champion Nutrition's Metabolol. The chocolate is the best I've had! It's just like a milkshake. But, at 260 calories, 40 g of carbs and only 18 g protein, it's not an option. So, in 2nd place, EAS Myoplex Lite chocolate is my preferred protein powder. It's thick, mixes well, and isn't too expensive if you price shop.
To each their own I guess - I've tried many protein powders that got rave reviews only to find they are pretty bad tasting... the worst are the watery ones!

ON 100% Whey - Cake Batter
What makes it so special?
[*]Mixability?
Mixes very well! I give it a 5/5 on mixability. Use a spoon/fork and you're set!
[*]Texture?
Very fluid - like any other fruit juice/milk texture
[*]Flavour?
Since I generally dislike 'artificial' tasting flavors, cake batter is actually quite tasty. I don't eat sweets and 'cheat' so this is basically my dessert for me every day I use it regularly with water as well.
[*]Cost?
$40+ for 5lbs
[*]Other things? Added extra-special-ingredients?
120 calories - low carb and low fat (sorry, I cannot remember exact estimates)
I take ON during the day and towards the evening or before I go to sleep I take....
Syntrax Nectar - Fuzzy Navel... just because it has only 90 calories, no carbs, and no fat!
