Am i too old to play college ball?

I seriously want to get back into the college basketball scene and need some advice. ive taken hoops seriously since i was 5 years old and my main goal was to get in the NBA. That dream was takin from me in 2003 (my senior year) when i was ran over by a car. The tire litterally ran over my leg snapping my tibia and fibula in half!! well 7 years, 2 sugeries and 3 other injuries later i want to get back in the mix. But is 23 going 24 too old to try to play college ball? I went to a JC for a year after high school then dropped out because of financial reasons.. but i want to go back.. Does anybody with exp. have any advice for me??

So you would be a sophmore right?
Not that old, you could have 3 years of eligibility, if you had at least one good season, for instance your senior year, you can try and see to get a chance overseas. That is a long shot, but definitely not too old for college bball. At least for D2/D3 levels. D1 is out of range.
Just get your head into it and start working on it if you really want it.

If you were a full time student during that year than you have 4 full time semesters left at the D2 level. D1 time is up, but that doesn't mean you can't excel, and still go for your dream.

When I was a freshman in HS, there was a guy who signed a baseball contract out of HS. He was a top rated player, but a few years ago got hurt. He ended up playing JUCO ball in Florida, and walked onto the Gonzaga basketball team and made it. He was 25 years old when he started.

A lot of the greats played at D2 schools. Pippen, Rodman, etc.

    Small forward/power forward.
Been playing mostly PF this season since that's what the team needed, but SF is my primary position.

I was actually thinking the same thing today. Life came up and ruined my senior year of BBall I am thinking of training and seeing if I can get back to college level play. It is hard though because I forgot how to jump in that time. I had a 30 inch vert leaving highschool now I am around a 22. That and I no longer have a Bball body. 6'1 210 isn't really ment for collegel level.

Seems like there are a lot of people in the same boat...I'm almost 20, so a sophomore, and I actually had a chance to play last year but messed it up. Since then I've seriously regretted it. As fun as making it rain on 16 years olds and old guys at the gym is, I miss playing at a high level. But back to the original post, I think you should definitely go for it. At 6'5 214, you have the size to play at least at like a near by comm. college or maybe somewhere else. As long as your body has healed up well and your still in "basketball shape," you shouldn't have a problem playing somewhere.

That is a great choice, Maggette is more of a "power" guard, he's quick but really strong for a 2 guard or a 3 forward.
I'm more of a lightweight as i've had trouble gaining any weight this season, i've gained not more than 4,5lbs of muscle in total.
Once you've actually started working it will be mostly downhill from there in terms of momentum.

are there any such stories in ncaa soccer? is there an age limit or is it all the same for all the sports? and if u played in naia(the private school league...not sure if i put the right acronym for it) does it affect ur eligilibility as a ncaa athlete?

I'm in a similar situation my self, i'm 21 and want to play university ball. I was going to try out in my first year but I got hit by depression and had a nervous breakdown and lost all focus and quit playing for a year. I finally snapped out of it 6 months later and had to get my grades on track again and now things are well. I'm in 3rd year now but it doesn't really matter considering its only the OUA which is in Canada (lol) and the rules are a little different. as long as I'm still in school full time I'm eligible.

If your eligible your never too old...... plus remember you don't even hit your prime til your 30. I mean look at mma fighters some of those guys are 28-30 years old and JUST starting out. look at brock lesnar he just started and he's 32 now. I guess thats where the saying is, "30 is the new 20." lol

and also sorry to hear that happened, I don't know what i'd do if I broke my leg. thats always been my biggest fear playing sports because either you recover like you did or you don't recover at all.

just think if you made it, the feeling would be far more exciting considering the obstacles that you had to overcome

You still have elgibility left. What may happen is your time maybe cut short depending if you were full-time or part-time during that year of juco so check with the athletic director of the school you are looking to attend. At 24, you are not too old to play although you may have to go NAIA cause I doubt NCAA schools will take somone your age (D3 NCAA will I believe).

I know this because coming out of high school in 2002 I signed with a NCAA school and then was kicked off the team and then I lefts school and started working. I went and played juco ball for two years from 06-08 (I was 24 when I was done) and when it was time to move on, only NAIA schools would take me because of my age and D3 schools were all over me because of my grades but I wouldve only had a year and a half to play because of that semester rule the NCAA has. Unfortunately I tore my acl and meniscus and at my age I let it go.

    Hope this helps.
