on the day of the landings on 25 april, the anzacs were slowly advancing towards their targets, the third ridge and chunuk bair. Turkish forces were coming up from the opposite direction. During the advance of the turksh 57th regiment, its mountain battery, positioned in the “waterbed” area, was firing accurately on the australians holding baby 700, and the 57th regiment managed to push back those advancing on battleship hill.
It was during the to-and-fro battle on the second ridge that the turkish commander, mustafa kemal, pronounced his now famous order:
“i do not order you to attack, i order you to die! In the time which passes until we die, other troops and commanders can take our place.”
this is a symbolic cemetery in memory of the legendary turkish 57th regiment, with the names of many of its fallen soldiers chosen randomly to appear either on the headstones or on plaques on the surrounding walls. The actual cemetery, recently made accessible to visitors, lies in a valley to the right of the memorial down a series of steps.
At the northern end of the cemetery there is a three-tiered far-eastern style monument. Near the entrance is a statue of the last known surviving turkish veteran of the campaign. Huseyin kacmaz, who died in 1994, and a relief depicting the regiment's counter attack on april 25.
the flag of the 57th regiment is on display at melbourne museum in australia. These words are written under the flag: "this regimental flag was brought from gallipoli but it could not be enslaved. According to the traditions of the turkish army, the flag of a regiment cannot be surrendered until the last soldier of a regiment is dead. This flag was found on a tree with the last soldier of the regiment lying under it. Do not pass by the flag, which is a symbol of bravery, without saluting it." the flag was brought from egypt.

19 Mayıs 1919
- Yav bırak Mustafa abi yaa, sen mi kurtarıcan memleketi Allah aşkına!
Ama işgal zırhlıları..?
- Boşver şimdi sen işgal zırhlılarını filan... Gün gelir, memleketin malını mülkünü tapusuyla İngiliz’e satar bunlar.
Yok canım!
- Yeminle söylüyorum, İngiliz vatandaşı bakan bile getirip koyarlarsa şaşma.
- Ama ahval ve şerait...
- Güzel abim yaranamazsın... Bak şimdi binicez bu dandik gemiye, taaa Samsun’a gidicez, savaş, boğuş, kendimizi paralayacağız, diyelim becerdik, devrim mevrim, anlata anlata dilinde tüy bitecek, sonra sen kahırdan ölücen, önce biraz ağlıycaklar, sonra gene "Son Osmanlı Padişahı" diye pankart açacaklar, mezarında dönücen.
- Saltanat kalsın diyorsun yani...
- Alışmadık kıçta don durmaz abi, egemenlik megemenlik vereceğine, iki çuval kömür ver, daha iyi... Aha buraya yazıyorum, açlıktan nefesleri kokarken padişahlarına saltanat uçakları alırlar, bu gemiyi de jilet yaparlar, söylemedi deme.
- Efkârlandım be...
Bazıları sana inanacak, etkilenecek, senin fikirlerini yaşatmaya kalkacak, hayatları kayacak, evleri basılacak, içeri tıkılacaklar, kimine saçını örtmediği için fahişe diyecekler, kimine milletin malını Arap’a satmayın dediği için komünist diyecekler, kimine Ne Mutlu Türküm Diyene dediği için faşist diyecekler, darbeci diyecekler... Yorma ahaliyi, kula kulluk edelim, rahat edelim.
- Yok arkadaş, ben bir deneyeceğim.
- E sen bilirsin.
Happy Independence Day.

Selam arkadaslar,
Anyone moved to Turkey after getting a degree from outside? How's the job prospect?(whether you're foreign or turk)“Procrastination most often arises from a sense that there is too much to do, and hence no single aspect of the to-do worth doing. . . . Underneath this rather antic form of action-as-inaction is the much more unsettling question whether anything is worth doing at all.” Mark Kingwell

If you think the turkish letters have too many dots, check out my mother tongue:
Why would there be no H in Turkish? People from the part close to Bulgaria don't really pronounce H, but it is just a dialectal thing.
I donno why the cup is so small but I am actually drinking turkish tea from it right now and it is just not the same drinking it from a big mug."It's better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you're not!" - Kurt Cobain

The dots mess me up, i just find the small tea cup awkward 1-2 drinks at most and its all gone feelsbadman. They gave me some sort of evil eye and stuck it to my keychain, so far so good nothing bad has happend since ive had it, so thats a +. They said there are no gyms in turkey? But i watched afghan muscles a while back yes i know its a differenr country entirely but they were poor but still had a small simple gym which is what i prefer anyways. Thanks again for you reply and help, their culture is new to me but im learning

I love the evil eye beads, have tons of them as necklaces and earrings too.
Pretty sure there are gyms in bigger cities, in Istanbul for sure, have been to one too...in tourist areas there have to be ones too. Especially bcs I think Turks have a good basis for BBing anatomically."It's better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you're not!" - Kurt Cobain

Not sure what she meant by fake turkish....
The soap operas are popular in latin countries too...and I think some type of soap opera is famous in every country, so...but yeah, I think turkish people (mostly women) like watching sad lovestories..."It's better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you're not!" - Kurt Cobain

The prices for the supplements were about 5-6 times as much and the quality was questionable, so I tried to ship some supplements to Turkey. I just put fish oil, multi and lecithin in the box (total value around 60-70 bucks); nothing that should alarm the customs in my opinion.
However, the box got stuck at the customs of Izmir. They were meant for my mother-in-law, who is old and ill enough not to be able to pursue this over there.
It took about 9 days (instead of estimated 3-5) and she received a notice that it is currently held at a specialized customs office. When a family friend went there, the guy had told him that she needs to bring a prescription. She explained that these are over the counter, but the guy basically had told her that he knew that it didn't make sense, but it is law and he couldn't do anything about it.
This doesn't sound right to me at all. It is not likely they can find a doctor to write prescription for fish oil. Do you have any experience with this? Any truth or base to what the customs official had said?
Thanks in advance.
