Pullups And Pushups Are Far Better Then Weights

Name any upper body muscle and pullups and pushup variations will cover it. If pushup variations are getting easy try handstand pushups and one hand pushups. The best exercise to get explosive strength is clap pushups.

Ask me any bodypart and I will give you examples of bodyweight exercises that work the muscle. If you think you only get strength from doing 5 reps and under on the bodypart I will give you an exercises that you might not even be able to do 1 rep of.

Debatable. And if they do, it's not the same degree as bench press.
There are lots of pushups variations that work the chest
There are just as many, if not more, variations of bench press.
There is less chance of injuring yourself
If you use proper form and know what you're doing, you shouldn't hurt yourself doing either.
You don't need equipment to do pushups
There's a reason equipment was invented, it works.
You will save money because you don't need weights or gym memborships
So all you plan to do is push ups? You're not going to want to work any other parts of your body that you may need weights for?
You will save space if you workout at home
Save space by working out at home? That doesnt make sense. If you went to the gym you'd take up space?
You will not need to go to the gym
Why are you on this website if you're against the gym?
If you don't need to go to the gym you will save time
Not necessarily, I go to school where I work out so it's just as fast to go to the gym as it would be to work out at home.
If you do the one hand pushup you will develop balance and strength at the same time.
You'll develop balance and strength if you bench, and use many of it's variations as well.

I don't understand. You seem to be against the gym, completely. With your BW squat topic and now this. Did you drop the soap in the showers or something at your gym? Bad experience?

you need to be specific.... if you have a low BF% and are looking to add some thickness to your chest than push-ups are a suitable option. if you are a power lifter than they won't help with lifting the bar off of your chest.

I do fully agree that pull-ups are one of the best upper-body exercises that can be done.

But how bout instead of arguing about which exercise/work-out routine is best, why not just think of them all as tools that can be used to help people achive their various goals.

It seems that you are just looking for an argument. Bored?

There are 100s of types of pushups. Are there 100s of types of bench presses no theres not. All muscles in the upper body can be worked with pullups and pushups.

So how do you get stronger doing push ups when you can already do 100? Getting someone to sit on your back is not very practical and weighted vests don't go anywhere near the weight of a person.

Push ups are very good and have their place but so does the bench press.

Without some form of added weight you will never hit the Type IIB fibers and hardly any of the Type IIA. My only exception may be pull ups/chin ups and that's only when first starting out and one can't do many. As you get "stronger" at BW exercises it starts to effect anything but Type I fibres less and less.

i agree with you sir however i also see where pullups and pushups could negate alot of lifts for me and they already have

wieghted pulls and pushups are better then their machine counterparts by lightyears IMO wieghtedpulls are just sexy and wieghted pushups dont bother my shoulder as much as bench does

i do know that this is just one persons opinion and i respect those who choose not to do these but i choose to do pullups ans pushups over lat pulldowns and bench press just for the reason that they hurt my shoulder less

If you think that doing only 10 reps and under will gain strength how about you do 10 handstansd pushups and I will give you an even harder pushup variation. Your a hypocrit saying handstand pushups and one hand pushups won't gain strength because I bet you can't do ten of either one without stopping. your basically saying under 10 reps isn't going to build strength

I'm not a hyprocrit because I said nothing about reps.

AND, the number of reps sometimes doesn't play a role in gaining strength. If someone can only do a max of 5. They might be doing strength activity because if it's very hard, they will be increasing their CNS percentage.

Oh and btw, the general amount of reps for strength is 1-5. Muscle and strength is 6-8 and 9-15 is muscle building. Learn your facts before trying to start pointless arguments.

    Really? Hundreds implies atleast 200.
Please, if you could enlighten us... I'd like to see 200 variations of push ups.
