Just started a Tabata training routine and I am wondering how often if at all should I do cardio.
Currently I am 206 lbs, 5'11", 28% bodyfat. Current Maximum Bench 325, Squat 375, Deadlift 350. My current goal is cut bodyfat and at the same time not to loose any muscle mass.
My current plan was do Tabata training 5 days a week for 4-6 weeks before returing to a more basic routine (5x5). So again my question is how often should I be doing cardio?
thanks for any input

well if all you are doing is tabata i would say doing some moderately intense cardio 2-3 times a week along with it would work just fine cause tabata is intense as hell if you do it the right way. but why get rid of lifting for just tabata. i would prefer doing tabata twice a week along with cardio after and continue the lifting.

Proper Tabata training is supposed to have the same effect as 20-30 minutes if "normal" cardio.
"Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret."
Training regularly but no progress?
You need one or more of these: more food, more weight, more reps or more rest.

Hey man, the way your using tabata is absolutely brutal, I tried this a while back, went through a phase of tabata everything!lol. Nearly lost a client through it actually.lol.
But anyway, you say your not looking to lose any muscle mass, training like this you willdefinitely lose a small amount, but the benefits of it are definintely worth it, you won't, or at least I never, lose any stregth, which means you will be leaner, firmer and hopefully maintaining the same stregnth.
As for cardio, skip doing tabata on legs, unless your doing a compound lift like deads or something for your 8 x 20 secs, and try doing a spin class or something like that, its totally different form of cardio and will have your heart bursting through your pec's in no time.
Doing something like that once, maybe twice a week depending on your recovery from your tabata, would deifintely be a good help along the way to getting lean, just make sure your always fully tanked up with water, you need to keep your fluids to the max whilst training this way.
Hope this helps man.
