I started lifting two months ago and have my first meet on March 23rd. Over the last couple of months I have put on about 12 pretty lean pounds and my current weight is around 202 pounds. I would estimate by bodyfat percentage at around 16%.
I'm not in this to win anything - I would be thrilled if I totaled over 1k - but it's a small meet and I know that there is a guy who will be outlifting me in the 220 weight class. I'm not sure if I would have any competition in 198 and I'm just a few pounds away. That said, the meet is a month from now and I plan on eating food between now and then.
So: I'm not really interesting in putting on weight unless it's fairly lean. Do I try to stay around the 200 mark over the next four weeks and make 198 or should I forget about the scale and just see where things go?
Advice?

Weight Class Advice For First Meet on 3/23
In 2006 I was a Starting Strength success story, gaining 30 pounds of muscle and hitting 400/300/500 over seven months. Then excuses happened and my interests shifted. I made a pathetically short-lived attempt at a comeback eight months later, but that didn't last. That was nearly six years ago. I'm now 27 and am back for another shot at things. Follow my log and watch me (hopefully) get hella strong again!

Do not worry about weight class what so ever right now. Think about what you want to total next year at 220 and use this meet and others for fun, experience, testing your current strength, and having fun.
