When asked whether he thought machines were better than free weights (barbells & dumbells), Mike Mentzer said: "Of course, I drove to the gym in a machine and not on a bicycle."
Post your fav machines, pics and stories in this thread.
Mentzer, Viator, Arthur Jones and the Nautilus machines probably started it.
I remember in the 80s Gold's Gym was full of machines like Flex equipment etc. (which the gym got for free) Apparently not so much anymore since Gold's isn't really the mecca any more with more and more pros training all over the world and photoshoots also done elsewhere.
In his 1982 comeback Viator trained with machines that worked by pumping water into tanks to increase or decrease the weight.
I also remember Polaris, Challenger etc.
More recently Hammer Strenght has become very popular. I think Jone's son invented them? Enter Dorian Yates with one of the best backs ever and he loved the Hammer Strenght Rowing machine and the Nautilus pullover machine.
I must say that I didn't get much from the Hammer Strenght Chest Press. The lat machine was great!

i stick to the basics: dumbbell pullover, barbell squat, barbell bench dumbbell shoulder press so on and so forth. i think i use one machine per body part and the rest is either barbells or dumbbells. i'm not hating i mean pros implement them i just don't get why the barbell and dumbbell is going out of style these days.

As long as you get that "pump" going, you are g2g regardless of free/machine. However free weights makes me feel a bit tighter after a workout.
I love optimizing negatives aka HIT into my routines but its hard when you do not have a spotter to help you hit your last 2 negatives to really maximize the workouts. So I either do dropsets with in 1 set or I use the machines and really crank to failure.

We have those in my university's gym. I honestly never use them cause I don't imagine that I would like them.
With my height, I actually adjust the seat to wear it is just under me and I am standing. It doesn't support any of my weight. I can't really say where exactly the pad is in relation to my chest.

This thing?
It's crap to be honest, like most of the old Nautilus stuff. They work with chains instead of cables so the movement isn't very fluid at all.It is with people like you that this sport will never grow. "When you say, everything and anything to be pro, do you mean even to turn HOMO?...

Intresting thread. Some machines definatly seem to work the muscle they intend to, back and bi machines are good also ab machines not bad.
One machine that is 100% useless is the assisited dip and chin up machine. I have never needed assistance to do either dips or chins/pullips due to being a very good athelete.
The following machine would IMO be of benefit to only 100% beginers, it has no place in a bodybuilding gym.

That assisted dip/chin machine needs a re design, if you changed the way the weights moved so it became a weighted dip machine and weighted chinup machine then it would be more usefull and save having to strap weights with a belt round our mid sections whilst we are doing either chins or dips.
Brah my re designed machine would not suit everyone, you would be best sticking to asisted everything.TEAM WOLF + TEAM KAI +TEAM CEDRIC + TEAM ROMGLE - TEAM RAMY - TEAM FAIR JUDGING
