Well, a lb of fat is 3500 calories. I suppose that hypothetically it would be possible...

But it would not be wise.

You'd have to maintain a 3500 daily calorie deficit to lose a pound a day. All of those calculations of caloric deficit/surplus also take into account your level of physical activity.

Your body would go into starvation mode and hang onto every last bit of fat that it could.

    6.01.2009: 208#, 20.1% BF (LISS Cardio)

For a group of people who (hopefully) understand that cheating defeats the purpose of whatever you're doing, gaming the system seems like an awfully hypocritical practice.

So even if you eat 3,000 calories, and you happened to burn 3,500 you will go into starvation mode? I never knew that. Even though burning 3,500 calories would be ridiculous

It is, I've done it for wrestling, not a very fun thing to do, loose muscle, and has some adverse affects afterwards.

No. That's not how it works.

The key word is DEFICIT. Not expenditure, not burning, not using, nor whatever term you want to associate with what you do to your body's energy stores whenever you exercise. Deficit means that after taking into account everything you do that day, you come in under a certain amount. I'll give you an example.

Joe eats 3500 calories a day. His total calories consumed is 3500 calories.

Joe has a BMR of 2500, and somehow manages to expend 4500 calories during his daily workout.

    His total calories burned is 2500 + 4500 = 7000.

Calories consumed - calories burned = deficit (if burned > consumed) or surplus (if burned > consumed)

Joe would be running a 3500 calorie deficit:

    3500 - 7000 = -3500.

Math & reading comprehension are your friend.

Losing a pound a day is next to impossible. You are going have such a large calorie deficit that you are going to feel terrible and not be able to workout. This is just not healthy. 1-2 pounds a week is the way to go if you want to keep the weight off in the long run.

Nope even if you were able to burn 3500 calories there is no way to have every single loss come solely from fat..some will come from muscle.

It's possible to burn off that much, yes. But not in fat. You'll lose a fuckload of muscle mass and end up as one big overworked mess.

You don't need 5 hours of cardio a day. You don't even need 5 hours a WEEK unless you're prepping for some serious contest, and are 3 days before your show.

I surely hope you're not going to try this.

I did the same thing in my sophomore year in high school, went from 185 to wrestle at 152 in about a months time, maybe like 5-6 weeks... I ended up developing an arrhythmia. I don't suggest trying it. I was taking in about 1500-2000 calories a day and burning around that in the 3 hour practice...

I went from football season (we went deep into playoffs, thus this shortened my time to cut for the first match) and went down to 215, in less than 2 weeks. God I was an overworked, low blood sugar mess. Won the match thought

P.S. I jumped to 260 after the season, taco bell binge eating at night is not that good for you I guess).
