    Do you count vegetable calories?

On a cut, do you write them off or do you count every veggie in every recipe? I haven't been but starting to think I should be so curious what others are doing.

1 lb of broccoli is 150 cals. So yea, I'd say you should factor it in, especially if you eat a lot of veggies on a cut.

when cutting it's important to eat a lot of veggies (for one it helps with satiety, and when protein increases you want to counteract a more acidic diet). If you're eating 6+ cups/day it can add up in calories and definately contribute to carbs.

I count them for sure. I LOVE veggies, and eat TONS of them. Therefore, a lot of the cals I eat are from veggies, and I definitely need to count them...

I thought that most veggies were negative calorie (take more energy to burn than they give you), I was under the impression that certain veggies (obv. not potatoes and corn) were basically negligable calories.

If you are going to count, might as well count everything. Wouldn't worry about little things like 1 piece of broccoli. However, if you are eating a substantial amount it will definitely add up.

    I don't count my veggies.

Heck, I don't count my protein shakes.

    Or my milk.

    Or my chicken.

    Or my fat.

    Or my carbs.

    I eat 0 calories a day!!!!!!

Actually -10 calories a day if you count the negative caloric effect of certain veggies... which I count

I think it's a personal choice as long as you are CONSISTENT (assuming you have a meal plan worked out)

basically if you don't count them but count everything else it's fine as long as this continues.

If you say eat 2400 calories without veggies and are losing/gaining weight you can constantly adjust the calories by reducing/increasing the other meals as required.

It just becomes an issue if you chop and change between counting some days and not others.

    This applies to gum/coffees etc

This is true, but what about the effect of "negative calorie foods"? I fully appreciate that, quite literally, all foods contain calories, but, it's become apparent that an abundant range of fruit and veg. uses more calories in its digestion that it contains?

(It won't let me add a link because I've not submitted enough posts) But google "list of negative calorie foods" and let me know what you think! Any feedback will be appreciated as it's something that I've been wondering about for quite some time...

some veggies do take a lot to burn but you will still come out with positive net calories. With that said I don't really count veggies unless I'm eating a substantial amount in which I
    Just guesstimate.

    This.

Though I'd always recommend to count root vegetables, since the fructose/glucose can really add up.

I love baby carrots and can polish off quite a lot, if unrestrained

If it is your goal to count all your calories, then count them.

For the average person who is not on a strict diet, it is perfectly acceptable to consider a serving of non-starchy vegetables as a free food. (1/2 C cooked, 1 C raw, 2 C leafy greens)

i count everything that contains calories and enter my mouth
a cup of broccoli yields ~25 calories and that can add up to a few hundred if you eat alot of it + other veggies too
