Sorry for the short answers. I'm on my iPhone.
Can you be a little more specific? Are you referring to things like biomechanics? Planes of movement?

The guy who ran it was great and definitely knew his stuff. I'm sure the other 13 people there got a lot more out of it than I did as I was the only experienced person who attended the workshop.

Its a chart of overactive / underactive muscles, and which stretchs or exercises to be used to correct the imbalances. If you already mastered functional anatomy it should be pretty easy as sir riccus said thats all it really comes down to, but it is definitely worth finding in your book.

I left my book at home (at school all day) but I will let you know tonight when I find it.

Took the practice test and scored a 93% on my first try. I know the practice test questions differ from the actual test, but I'm feeling rather confident in my ability to pass this exam. Are the questions on the actual test similar to the practice test?

    Thanks!

Some of them are the same just reworded, but a lot cover different information. You should be very ready by your test date with such.a good start. The day before my final I made sure I got a 99-100% on the practice and went in to do the real thing the next day, that confidence really helps especially if the testing site is a long drive.

    Hi Bradster and Friends,

I have a question for those who have passed the exam recently or anyone who can shed some light on a subject for me. I'm been studying the acute variables for core, stabilization, etc from the individual chapters and have been doing fairly well with the practice exams. I missed a question on the Program design practice test that got me thinking about the acute variables and how they would be on the test. The question asked something along the lines of "What is the correct number of core exercise for someone in Phase 2 of the OPT model. a) 0-4 b) 1-3 c) 2-5 d) 5-7"

I chose A on the practice test and got it wrong. The correct answer was B. When I look at the Core Training program design chart on page 214 it shows 0-4 as the correct answer for someone in Phase 2, but on page 345 it shows 1-3 exercises for Phase 2: Strength Endurance Acute variables.

Should I know all the variables from the individual chapters or just the ones from Chapter 13? I'm just concerned because they both seem like they could be correct answers. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance I appreciate it.

Yep, you will have to know not just the core training variables as a whole but for stabilization, strength and reactive adaptations.

Phase 2 of the OPT model is strength so you needed those variables like if they said phase 1 youd need the stabilzation variables.

In the 4th edition the Overhead Squat table is on page 133 and slightly varies from the table I posted a link too.

There are also tables on page 136 for the pushing assessment and page 138 for the pulling assessment.

    Thanks for the reply Bradster,

How would you suggest learning all the acute variables as a whole and for each Phase of the OPT model. Any word association tricks or just stick them on flashcards? I'm jut trying to take the best approach to learning them.. Thanks again!

    Anytime Buddy,

I just used note cards. I had a stack for stabilzation, strength and power. Then once I mastered them each like that I mixed them together.

    Hi Guys,

I'm making way way through the chapters and took this month to review before I move on. I'm having difficulty with chapter 13 acute variables and adaptations so I was wondering do I need to know the program design adaptions on pages 328-331? I've got all the acute variables for each phase of resistance training down but didn't want to confuse myself with the adaptations if they weren't needed. Thanks guys.

Just took and passed the NASM CPT in England!!

    Hey guys

Just took and passed the NASM CPT all the way here in England. I actually found that the test was identical to my online practice exam. The only questions I didn't recognise were probably the research ones. There was an acronym on there that was not in the CPT 3 book, but I took my best guess and hopefully it was correct. Got maybe 3 questions on the p. 169 muscle imbalances and a few duplicate questions, I swear they asked me the root cause analysis questions twice. I studied for 2 months, read the textbook twice, watched the videos, made my own flashcards and outlines. I was so nervous and thought I wasn't ready, but in fact, was probably over prepared. Better than to be underprepared I guess.

I think if you read and actually understand the principle behind what they are trying to teach, anyone taking the test will be absolutely fine.

Just an admin question for those who have already taken the test, how long does it take before you can print out your temporary certificate? My results said 3 business days, and I still cannot see it on my login page.

Thanks guys and good luck to those who are about to take it.

p.s. - I also have some very detailed notes and worksheet exercises for those who are about to take it and would like a copy. Send me your email addresses.

Congratulations! I agree it is best to feel overprepared in anything you have to do in life. On printing the certificate mine was rigjt on time at 3 days but it can be slow and up to a week, if it takes too long call them.

My experience: Lots of emphasis on stabilization training. LOTS. A little odd knowledge of acute variables, but it wasnt as bad as i thought. Its a load off my mind!

I just passed my NASM certification test today as well.

I would not advise doing what I did: ordering the study materials and then becoming so busy that you rarely have time to study. I studied on and off for about 6 months and took my exam within the last few days of my candidacy. I wish that I had accessed the CPT Prep and Practice Tests before the night before my exam but not having internet at home and working 60-hour work weeks was not so conducive to online learning.

Anyway, I figured it out, read the book almost twice, filled out the activity book, watched the DVD's. I found the practice test and online preps so useful as no one had actually quizzed me. Much like studying for the ACT or SAT, half of the battle is understanding how questions are worded and what answers are likely to be sought. Wish I had also accessed this thread before the test, but, eh... It's over, and I passed and now I get to write a happy email to the gym manager I've been in contact with to confirm that I've passed and am good for hire. Yay!
