    feeling depressed after workouts

does this happen to anyone else after coming home from the gym? i guess its just chemicle reactions happening in my body making me feel depressed but it sucks. other than this i never feel depressed in my day to day life, im usually a happy person. i dont resist it, i just kind of let it happen, takes about an hour for it to pass through.

wouldnt u feel better after working out? you training hard enough, are you gaining in the gym meaning lifts? Do you hate your body? the only thing i can think of when your leaving the gym is your size and lifts, but that comes in time. plan short term goals keep going up!

Try some serious cardio for that runners high.

You can add some caffiene and 1,3dymeth for a good feeling.

That's strange... endorphins should be flowing through your bloodstream following a tough workout, which basically is your body's version of painkillers. Are you getting enough water and calories in your diet? Depression following exercise can sometimes be a result of lack of nutrients and energy for your body.

It could simply be low blood sugar. Do you eat any carbs after your workout?

Also, do you take a lot of BCAA's pre or during the workout? There's a thread somewhere in the Supplement Science section stating that there may be a link to excessive BCAA supplementation resulting in low seratonin.

I second that. I feel really down after workouts if my nutrition is not in check. I have to remember to get in some simple carbohydrates before my workout and after. It helps a bunch!
There's one way to find out

I'm usually in a RAGE mode after i'm done with my workouts. Very irritable until I get some food in. I get pissed for the slightest of things.

But after i'm done with eating my meal. I'm calm and peaceful :P

ya i suppose low glucose/fatigue would be one thought so make sure you are refeeding properly. i tend to set such high standards for my individual workouts that if i don't crush the previous session's numbers i sometimes feel a little depressed after a workout. then i look back at some of the session where i made crazy gains and i'm like alright that is just insane, i can't do that everytime. then i look at what i felt was a bad workout and realize i didn't go down in anything, but stayed the same, and maybe went up on an exercise or two and realize in fact it was a perfectly good workout. take care of yourself and try to be a little more aware of what's going on so u can figure out why u feel this way. what do you think about or what is going through your head as you feel this way after workouts? well anyways i am not a psychologist, so i shouldn't delve into that too much, but my general take would be to try and get more in tune with why ur feeling that way so u can plan how to counteract those feelings. good luck and train hard, very solid physique.

OP tell me about your diet, especially pre-workout, intraworkout, and post-workout supps.

If I don't eat or have a shake an hour or two pre-workout, at the end of a hard workout I feel thrashed, physically/emotionally, name it.

But if my periworkout nutrition is in order, I usually feel good. If I took Amp V2 pre-workout, I feel fawking monstrous after working out and for a few hours after. that **** should be illegal.
    It's time for a Breakthrough.

    My only thoughts would be:
nutrition and hydration, self-image and then seeking professional help.
CHeck you nutriton and make sure you stay hydrated. Re-carb ater workouts.take your vitamins.
Dont allow yourslef to think too negativiely about yourslef. Sure everyone is looking for some sort of improvement in the gym but keep your self evals and goals realistic.
If all else fails go see a proffesional. You could just be a person that has to deal with clinical depression.

I get the same feeling as well. However this was even more prevalent when I took Jack3d before my workout. In the beginning I didn't feel anything like this but as I began to take Jack3d on a regular basis for gym the feeling of depression grew larger and larger. I had to consciously remind myself that Jack3d is causing some sort of chemical reaction in my body.

I have the same thing! Get also very depressed/tired after workouts.. Usually I take a nap after and I don't liek to do that really but I must cuz otherwise I'll b depressed the whole day.. Maybe it's all about that ur body is so tired after an intense workout. At least I have VERY intense 45 min workouts.

    Sucks.

I had the same problem several times. At first I just needed a preworkout stimulant. Caffeine! Check. Then it happened again... Turns out my diet was TOO high in protein and low in carbs. Check. Then it happened again! That's when you do a bit of endurance at the end of your workout.... Sprints or 10minutes fast cardio. Be creative. 20 burpees followed by 2 sprints repeat 5 times etc etc. If that doesn't do the trick take a week off. I had to do that.

I sometimes get depressed while working out an it just killls my whole work out. I never really know what its from though like ill walk into gym an just start feeling down it really sucks
Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.

At night I think about things that get me mad or angry (like people that piss me off) and it actually makes me wish i was in the gym all over again.

    Question

Dude I'm wondering if your just plain tired and your interpreting it as depression...maybe it's that you got so pumped about your workout before hand that after your finished your let down...depressed it's finished for the day....Just a thought brah....Self

That's weird OP, I've never known anyone to experience that, myself included. Maybe you should try going to a psychiatrist or something.

how hard are u pushing urself man? If it relates to getting out of the gym feeling underworked than you need to re-establish ur workout program and decide just how many sets and reps you want to achieve.

I feel good if i break a couple of PR's each workout and are continuously progressing. Try and set weekly, monthly and quarterly goals. That way you have something to work towards

I hope you guys realise the original post was back in '09. On a side note the Motivation Section of BB.com is making me feel a lot better about the site in general. Most other sections is people ripping each other and putting each other down where in this section people support and build each other up. So refreshing...good job everyone.
