What does "Tightening the Abs mean"

For certain exercises "tightening the abs" is necessary. Does this mean sucking in? Or pushing my stomach out? Or flexing the abs?

What does "tightening the abs" during exercises do?

It basically means "engage your core". Another overused term in the fitness industry. As you become more experienced in your training, it becomes natural.
