Sodium and water Manipulation for weight cutting

Hey guys I have a BJJ competition on saturday. I dieted down from 183 to 174 and have to be 163 on Saturday. From what I understand powerlifters use this method aswell and I just wanted to check if im doing it right.

Today Sunday(2 gallons of water +increased sodium intake) Lowered my carbs
    Monday (2gallons +increased sodium)+ lower carbs
    Tuesday(2gallons+increased sodium) lower carbs
    Wendsday(2gallons+increased sodium) lower carbs
Thursday(Light meals up untill 2:00pm(24hrs before weigh in) and no water after this point either)
Friday: Wake up if still over cut weight in sauna or hot baths.
    Saturday:Compete

Just wondering If im planning this right also anyone have a ballpark estimate on how much ill loose just from lowering carbs/ water and soidum manipulation?

i feel like you should stop water intake a little earlier, 24 hours before hand might not be enough time and would have you sitting in the sauna the day before struggling and being still 8-10lbs over. I would move everything back a day, to make sure, weighins are a day before anyway so you might as well be safe.

    What time are weigh ins?

You don't really need to load the extra salt. I cut down from 280 to 229 in 15 weeks and lost the last 10 pounds the day before weigh-ins. Cut all sodium at 36 hours. This means any food you eat, you pretty much have to make it yourself and this also cuts out a lot of protein powders. It doesn't take very long to dehydrate yourself. Cutting water out at 24 hours is dangerous as $hit. Cut the water the evening before the weigh-in.12-16 hours is plenty of time. I was working with Shelby Starnes and this is exactly what he reccommended for water and salt before weigh-ins.

There are a lot more effective ways to mess around with your weight for a weigh-in but they will seriously f-uck with your ability to lift heavy the next day. You don't want to lose more than 4% of your total bodyweight at one time, that can cause some serious problems.

I used this method to drop from 242 down to 231 over the course of 18 hours for my last comp in October. I did some of the baths but I found out that sweating it out in the hotel bathroom by using the hair dryer was the best method for me. Also I found that Big Red is your FRIEND during this process...just have a spit cup close by.

Big Red? I usually go with IceBreakers Sours or Warheads. I'm salivating just thinking about it.

I used this method and didn't lose enough water through urination alone....ended up sitting the sauna for quite a long time, but i did lose the last 8lbs in a relatively short period, all things considered.

On the plus side, I hydrated with pedialyte/gatorade & water combo and ate a ton and got a few PR's the next day. Losing a few lbs water weight isn't too hard as long as you make sure to get everything back in your system and get a good nights sleep!!

Thanks for the replies guys. Id rather not do matt K's way because Id prefer to spend as little time feeling uncomfortable/ sweating as possible. With the water manipulation/ carb reduction Im hoping to lose like 6-8 pounds hopefully. The rest Ill just use with albolene and a sauna or steam room. I just hate being in saunas to long it drains the life out of me

Would the process be basically the same but less drastic if I have weigh ins during the afternoon and lift an hour or so later?

I have a question about water cutting like this, wouldn't this kill your strength for a weigh in that is relatively close to the start of the comp, like I dunno a 8am weigh in and comp starts a few hours later? Or would u be fine as long as your eating, drinking enough afterwards
