I cracked up when I read this!! HaHa!! Isn't that picture butt-ugly?!!! I tried to find the absolute worse picture I could find of myself to post so I would forever be reminded to NEVER let myself get that way again. Yeah, the outfit.......total dud

Well, dying is fairly rare, but there are definite complications and risks involved. Working in the medical field, I know all too well about surgical/recovery risks and almost canceled my surgery twice. A lot of plastic surgeons have surgical suites they operate out of. That's fine and very common, but one reason I chose the surgeon that I did was because he operated in a hospital. If you decide to go with a surgeon who operates out of a surgical suite you should be aware that they are not equipped to handle a major complication, mainly bleeding issues. I would ask any plastic surgeon what the protocol is if there is an emergent complication and most likely they will tell you that you'll be transported by ambulance to the closest hospital.

I have broad shoulders and thick legs, so I feel like I could go much bigger than a friend of mine did. She's 5'11" but with a very narrow frame and thin legs. She got 350cc. I think I'll be happy with 525/550cc.

That's great to hear about your recovery as well. I'm sure the surgical team all gave you 10s!! I've had another friend comment that the tightness feels a lot like when your breasts are full of milk (if you've breastfed), and I definitely remember that feeling.

So aside from chest work training feels pretty much the same?
I can't remember exactly, but I think my original choice was 350cc, but I ended up with a 380 and a 410....something like that. Apparently I was a bit lopsided . I left the final decision in the capable hands of the OR team. I just made them promise, as I was wheeled into the OR that they wouldn't make them so big that I would have to change my name to "Stripper Bambi"

Here are some excerpts from a study I read today on Warped Body Image:

American's have a warped sense of body image. But exactly how warped? A WSU professor asked the students in her Multicultural Perspectives on the Body and Dress class (where was that class when I was in college???) to physically describe the ideal woman. As a whole, the class response was: The "ideal" woman should be between 5'10" and 6' tall, weigh 110 to 115, and be a size 0-2. Pretty much what a model looks like. Ten years ago, the "ideal" woman was a size 4. Twenty years ago, a size 8. Fifty years ago, a size 12. So, "ideals" are getting harder and harder to reach.

The "ideal" man was described as tall, broad shoulders, narrow waist, firm pecs and a six-pack and looks like the men in Calvin Klein ads (W and Hoss, strip down to your underwear, I think you may qualify as ideal)

Take those perceived ideals and compare them with what the actual average woman looks like: She's 5'4", weighs 145 pounds and wears a size 14. So what gives? Between the ideal and reality are multibillion-dollar businesses messing with our heads and making us dissatisfied with our bodies. These unrealistic, out-of-reach ideals are contributing to a host of body image and health issues like obesity, eating disorders and extreme exercise regimens.

Next, was something I found very interesting. A multidisciplinary project is set to explore how post-surgical bariatric patients deal with the psychosocial aspects of improved body image, but the varied, often negative impact from their family, especially spouses, significant others, and children.

That seems to ring true with a lot of people who have transformations through bodybuilding. I know I found to encounter a lot of negativity from some of the people most important to me. Is it an insecurity thing on their part??

    Food for thought..........

I'd be curious to know the male to female ratio in that class.... either way it's flat out ridiculous to me. 5'10" and 110lbs??? Are you kidding me? If I ever saw a chick like that I wouldn't be thinking "ZOMG woodplow/10!" I'd be thinking "someone feed this coatrack a cheeseburger before she blows away!".

Very sad to think there are girls out there who still aren't grasping the fact that a healthy, attractive body actually DOES have some fat on it. Curves are GOOD. Say it with me.... CURVES ARE GOOD.

I will never understand how the fashion biz actually continues to operate the way that they do.... shoot, even the Victoria Secret models (who used to look GREAT) are getting too skinny now. Sadpanda.jpg

Interesting. I do think for a large percentage it is insecurity/jealousy. Any time a person has to downgrade someone or be negative it says there is a problem with them!! Negativity is different than honest curious questions, etc. (And I am not talking about when there is NEED for concern regarding someones behavior, just a normal healthy fitness person!) The quote in my sig 'obsessed is what the lazy call the dedicated' is kind of extreme, but I like it because it reminds me that if someone spouts negativity to me for my choices that are HEALTHY even if not mainstream, it is their issue, not mine.
"You pass on more to your children and your grandchildren than your eye color, your hair color, your crooked smile. You also pass on your enthusiasm, your spirit, your desire to compete. You provide the living example that they can become more than they ever thought they could. Because you did.”

You flatter us too much, plus you think I just come in here to be objectified?!?!?

But the rest of that study is pretty interesting - I've noticed that in my own family. My sister, who has struggled with weight a bit in her adulthood after being relatively thin in high school, is quick to lash out at me if I'm anywhere other than right in between 180-185 (not that she knows my bodyweight, just based on past experience). If I get up to 190-195, I'm soft... if I'm below 175, I need to eat something etc. I find it really weird because I know she's sensitive about her weight and I never say anything to her only to offer advice if she asks for it, but at the same time....

Sometimes this 'hobby' I feel like leads to a bit of body dysmorphia too... after you get down to decent levels of leanness, I know that I start to feel "fat" right now even though I know in my head it's a bit ridiculous. Your mind fixates on what you remember as the best version of yourself, and then treats that like your all-time standard. Or, I should say I'm just speaking for myself, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that that's not uncommon among others.

The trick is to set out a plan and stick to it for a while, and be honest with yourself about your adherence. If it's not working, then try to figure out why.

Obviously I don't know anything about your plan or history, but I feel in general that people are very quick to hop plans (whether it be workout plans, or dietary ones) just for the sake of "doing something new!".

As Dan John would say, "The goal is to keep the goal the goal."
Welllll, I said that yesterday in a moment of desperation. LOL. I don't think right now I would do the fighter diet. I think someday like for a cut I would try it, and see nothing wrong with it (I know it is controversial to some), but it isn't for me on a regular basis. I don't like to think about food too much or have anything off limits, just 'be healthy' and currently, get in the protein/hit macros. Though right now am changing the off limits stuff a little...
My current plan isn't really a plan, I just try to make healthy choices. The thing is when I have sweets I have trouble controlling it and it turns into a 3 day binge fest lately (details in my journal. It is not a consequence of restricting foods I have never done that) so the Current plan is keep making healthy choices, hit cals and macros (2300 on lifting days) and no sweets for a couple weeks, then will see where to go with that. I have never dieted but am interested in health and nutrition (for bodybuilding/fitness purposes but also health and disease prevention), no hx of ED or body issues, skinny fat for my adult life, no weight issues. Just binge tendencies that seem to be se in motion by eating a sweet treat. That is the gist.

    'night Dr. Swooshie!
It didn't state the male to female ratio, but that's a good point. I would suspect the class had a high female ratio of students. I think you speak for a lot of men when you say "curves are good". We are absolutely brainwashed by the media with an image of what's "acceptable" and it's very sad for impressionable women, especially young girls/women who base their self worth on outward appearance. sadmessedupworld.jpg

EXACTLY THIS ^^^^^ This is one reason I posted this study. As Bos says this game is MindFuk. I also think counting macros, weighing food, regimented eating can perpetuate disordered eating.

I looked long and hard at the Fighter Diet before I started it. It's not any more extreme then anything else out there; however, I think the controversy and negativity stems towards Pauline personally. Everyone needs to find the healthy balance, otherwise the scale will tip towards the abyss we could all fall in.

Again, the influence of a billion dollar empire constantly "telling" us what is acceptable. Deep down, everyone wants acceptance and unfortunately, a lot is based on outward appearance.

I agree! I actually like the looks of it. I think I will want to try it eventually. But right now just trying to find balance with my sweets issue- having days of certain foods being not in the plan wouldn't work as well for me at this point! I will be curious to hear more about it from you, though, as you continue with it.

Tonight at the gym some dude called me ma'am........ouch! Stab me right in the middle of my big, fat, inflated ego

So this new program I'm on calls for training chest/triceps and back/biceps. I don't really like that idea. First off, as stated in my intro, I'm not training chest right now, so that would leave me with triceps on their own. I don't think a back/bicep day is a great idea either, because I think it would decrease your lifting strength once you hit your biceps, after working your back. I'm going to change that to the more traditional bi/tri workout and straight up back day.

I had a long day at work so I had to cut my gym time short (not cool, work!) It was chest/tri day, so I just did triceps. Plus the gym was crazy packed. Have any of you noticed gangs of people working out together?? I don't mean someone with a lifting partner, I mean like a herd all clumped together hovering around the bench press, or whatever. What is that about?

    Triceps

Rope Cable Pressdown with 2 second pause at bottom

    60 x 17
    70 x 15
1 drop set 70 down to failure

    Straight Bar Reverse Cable Pushdown

    50 x 18
    60 x 14 F
1 drop set 60 down to failure

    Overhead DB Press

    30 x 8
    30 x 8

    Smith CGBP with throw

    Bar + 30 x 12
    Bar + 40 x 10

Looks like there was some Ham Rage in the locker room tonight!

Ugh, speaking of herds we had a curl-off going on in our 2 squat racks. Thank god I wasn't squatting today or I may have gone a little HAM on the track. It's very depressing when there is a collective 130 pounds in the only squat racks in the gym.

At least curls in a squat rack can be justified. I had legs last night and some dude was using the squat rack and bar to do.............pushups ?!?!? :/. This didn't require HAM rage....just a very pronounced bertstare.

Hey, thanks! Felt good last night. I'm interested in seeing how long it's going to take the powers that be to fix that locker. They're kind of slacking in the maintenance department these days.

Dairy doesn't always love me so I eat it very sparingly! Cheese is good.......especially on top of a big, juicy burger (with bacon, please)!

Does this ever happen to any of you Amazons.......

    Gosh I love my hair!
    My hair is great!
    Good hair day!
    Cute hair!
My hair looks like total sh$t

    How does that happen overnight?

Hi. Gotcha. Well if you have it I hope you enjoy it! I can eat dairy and like organic greek yogurt, cottage cheese and cheese. And ice cream. My girls both had MSPI (milk soy protein intolerance) and I nursed each of them for a year so could eat nothing with a speck of dairy or soy in the ingredients!! I missed my dairy! Worth it of course- never cheated once. Funny how when I Have to do something it is no prob.

Yes with the hair! That is when I know I need a trim. It definitely happens overnight sometimes!

    Not the case.

So one of my "pretend" goals in life is to punch someone in the face just to watch them drop. Cause I know I can do it .......
