I could care less if crossfit is taking over. Better than "so now you think you can dance" taking over. I've seen tons of old classmates that are getting in shape for the first time in their life thanks to crossfit. I know there is a few local gyms/boxes/whatever that actually do practice good form on oly lifts and aren't making people do kettleball throws off of a tightwire. The biggest issue is the "snob complex" that seems to come along with crossfit. I've tried it out a few times to see what the fuss was about and always got treated like my powerlifting and bodybuilding training was stupid and sub-par to crossfit circuit training. Sure it's a great cardio workout, but will I acquire massive 3d delts doing this? Hell No. Will crossfit help me pull over 600lbs? It can't hurt but you get the idea. It's great for people trying to get "in shape" but is nothing more than GPP to real bodybuilders/powerlifters.

Its a big private strength and conditioning and personal training gym called Next Level near i25 and Colorado. I'm not an expert with kettlebells, but there is trainer at my gym that is so I try to pick his brain and have help help me with technique from time to time. They are only a small portion of my training though.

I didn't say that.
I'm saying the elite athletes that perform those competitions more than likely were elite at another sport prior to coming to Crossfit.
I realize that you have to perform sport specific training for those competitions, but I'm saying many other athletes from other sports have come to Crossfit and done exceptional at those meets. Crossfit didn't initially make them what they are.A hit was sent, from the President, to raid your residence /

Yes it did.
You are talking out of your ass. You know absolutely nothing about Crossfit if you think that's the case. I'm serious. Anyone who has the view that someone will only do well at Crossfit if they were previously elite at another sport does not understand the fundamental ideas behind Crossfit, and in all honesty you probably have never done Crossfit. And you probably take supplements.
In b4 you say Crossfit is just circuit training."I would rather die young from a gunshot wound than to spend the rest of my life walking around with an ankle bracelet filled with tampons." -Pinhooker, May 10, 2016

I used to insult crossfit gyms and criticize them due to my own ignorance and lack of insight but in the past 8 months I've done some 'crossfit' sessions(once a week) at a teammate's gym/box/whatever and it's helped my conditioning a bunch. Also, he helped me with my Oly lifting form, which before was brutal so I didn't incorporate them into my workout routines. The circuit training helped my conditioning and complimented some of the stuff I already do like interval sprints, cone drills, etc. Im not a fan of kipping pull ups, I have a shoulder issue so I prefer to do strict form pull ups as they dont create pain in the joint. I completed the wods the same as everyone else but usually behind others because I was doing strict form pull ups. I believe crossfit is great for people who want to get in shape and immerse themselves into the community mentality. I think for people who train for a specific purpose (I train for a sport) there are better training regimines you can do, but crossfit/circuit training can still be an excellent accessory. The price of membership is a tad rediculous but if it keeps people in good shape and gives them that sense of accomplishment and challenge that we all need then I see the merit behind it. My only real issues are the gyms who do not properly train their members on technique and the militant attitude towards it of a FEW of the participants.

This is the entire point of Crossfit. We don't ever claim to make somebody the best at any given sport. We're for people who want to be good at all sorts of stuff. And the sport of Crossfit evolved out of people testing to see who was fittest all-around, not just in one discipline.
Somehow though, Crossfit has evolved to produce some pretty good weightlifters as well."I would rather die young from a gunshot wound than to spend the rest of my life walking around with an ankle bracelet filled with tampons." -Pinhooker, May 10, 2016
