I have ankle problems, so I prefer bike. When I do bike, I tend to push myself really hard, like going constantly around 100 RPMs , or doing somethingm more HITT style and alternating minutes between 90RPMs and 120RPMs. My quads are pretty much burning the entire time. One positive thing I noticed about bike is that you can go more distance in the same amount of time, so I wondered if that was a positive in terms of putting greater work in.

I'd say it depends which one you enjoy more and therefore will put more effort into.
I prefer cycling for longer cardio sessions because it is low impact. For shorter, more interval oriented cardio I prefer running. Since I cycle 22km each way to work 5 days a week it also is a very convenient way to get cardio in. It takes about 15 min longer each was than driving and I get about 90 minutes of cardio.

What type of physique do you prefer?
Cyclist or a Sprinter...??
If you're ankles hurt while running you may have to adjust your gate pattern or get new shoes or both. Run on a treadmill too, not concrete."For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come." 1 Timothy 4:8
