I do, but i do it because room temp water is gross >.<

I did read some place that the reason for this is your body works harder to warm the water blah blah, I would imagine it would have to be quite a bit of ice cold water to equate to anything substantial 16oz at-least if I had to guess. And that IF this is even true

Well it doesn't speed up your metabolism, but I guess in theory your body would warm the water up. It would definitely not be something that would make large results, if they even show at all.

There is some truth in this as your body must warm the water to body temperature to be able to absorb and use it which of course requires some energy to do.

You can see this by drinking ice cold water and then jump up and down after 15 mins or so and you will hear the water sloshing around in you gut showing that it has not been absorbed yet. This doesn't happen with room temperature.

It won't make a lot of difference but as you said every little helps and combined with all the other pieces of the puzzle could contribute slightly.

Ice water is better for sure but it does not boost metabolism. At least not any longer than it takes to warm it up to body temp. However, it does burn more calories than drinkin cool or room temp water. Over the course of time and drinking 8 cups a day can add up though.

You should drink ice cold water with all meals if possible. Your body has to heat up the water which in turn means it has to use energy to heat the water up to use the water. That in turn speeds up your metabolism. I am not saying that if you drink ice cold water and not excercise or anything you will lose weight. It increases meatabolism a little nothing really that major.

I would assume this theory is negilible for fat loss/weight loss but drinking water as soon as you wake (after washing) is a good cleanser and a great way to flush toxins that have built up in your digestive system overnight. Drink water and then 30minutes later eat breakfast......lemon juice in the water is an amazing detoxifier.

And you really do not need to drink cold water.
Kill me. You must. For I will not stop.

I can't stand cold water, there is no point in drinking cold water because your body won't absorb the water until it's the same temp as your body, so all the blood rushes to your stomach to warm the water up. I know this sounds like broscience but we discussed this often in my nutrition classes.

If you're dehyrated, the worst thing you can do is drink COLD water.

This is from a health magazine I read.

Let's figure out exactly what you're burning when you drink a 16-ounce (0.5 liter) glass of ice water:

The temperature of ice water can be estimated at zero degrees Celsius.
Body temperature can be estimated at 37 degrees Celsius.
It takes 1 calorie to raise 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius.
There are 473.18 grams in 16 fluid ounces of water.
So in the case of a 16-ounce glass of ice water, your body must raise the temperature of 473.18 grams of water from zero to 37 degrees C. In doing so, your body burns 17,508 calories. But that's calories with a little "c." Your body only burns 17.5 Calories, and in the grand scheme of a 2,000-Calorie diet, that 17.5 isn't very significant.

But let's say you adhere to the "eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day" nutritional recommendation. In 64 ounces of water, there are 1,892.72 grams. So to warm up all that water in the course of a day, your body burns 70,030 calories, or 70 Calories. And over time, that 70 Calories a day adds up. So, while you definitely shouldn't depend on ice water consumption to replace exercise or a healthy diet, drinking cold water instead of warm water does, in fact, burn some extra Calories!

Nice Post! 70 calories per day to warm up water... 350 calories per week.... 10 weeks equals one free pound of fat! Could be five pounds per year!

That's the point. It's like fat burners or CLA, none of them really make a big difference but if you pair a lot of cold water and CLA over time you might lose 2-3 extra pounds over the course of 12 weeks.
