Today was a rather horrible lift,..even tho my strength was the same,..my core was all out of alignment. I am pretty complete in my core training so thats not the issue. What I have been noticing and have noticed for sometime now is my sleep suffering due to a progressively worsening mattress. I really feel my lower back aching at night and into the morning upon waking up. Is there anyone here that specializes in mattresses or has had similar issues with sleep discomfort that can provide a good appraoch to buying a good quality mattress? thanks and reps for your help!

I've had a lot of bad experience with mattresses. Being that I weighed close to 270 lbs for a long time...I wore em out pretty good.
I've been looking around a lot, not that I'm ready to buy. But if I were you I would take a close look at the sleep number beds. Pricy, but I think that might be the next mattress purchase I make."Some people are like Slinkies. They're not really good for anything but they sure bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs."

You have to go and actually try a mattress before you buy it. We went to lots of stores and tried all the fancy stuff, but none of them are worth it. Ended up buying a decent quality firm mattress and put a 1" thick memory foam topper on the top, then kept our old box springs. I haven't had back problems since. -That and several sets of weighted hyper-extensions every week fixed me

I used to sell mattresses for about 5 years.
The best ones are Simmons Beautyrest and Sealy Posturepedic, hands down.
You will hear alot about the memory foam ones, they are really a giant hot sponge that is very exopensive, save your money.
The same goes for sleep number beds, if you have ever slept on an air mattress then thats what it will feel like except it is fancier and costs alot more.
Here is how to get a good deal.
Start by going into a mattress store, not a furniture store. At mattress stores you can negotiate the price and your are pretty much expected to. I only rarely sold one at full price. Dont let the price tags fool you, those are for suckers.
Look at the Simmons beautyrests. They have individually pocketed coils and great warranties. They are very well made. The pocketed coils keep you from feeling your partner moving around. Thats the same as a memory foam would do but the memory foam gets very hot and you can get stuck in the foam as it molds around you. Momeory foam doesnt breath.
You will see other brands of pocketed coils but they are inferior in workmanship and materials.
Select one in the $1500 to $2000 price range for starters. They should have 3 feels, firm, which is rock hard, Plush, and Pillowtop.
The best one would most likely be the middle one. The big pillowtops look nice but they take away from the support system. If you have to have a pillow top then dont get the giant pillowtop, just something reasonable.
Now compare these to Sealy Posturepedic. They provide equal support but dont have pocketed coils. This is the type of mattress I have becasue i dont have a prtner to worry about.
Try a few mattress and thats it. Any more and you will start to get confused.
Now make your selection from the ones you tries. Here is where the negotiation will start.
Start by asking the salesman of they match prices. This will let him know that you are or have been shopping around and are looking for a deal. He will think you have been to other places even though you havent.
A couple things will happen. If he is weak then he will offer you a discount out of the blue. If he is good, he will just brush it off.
Now ask him if he can write this price on a card becasue you are going to check out some competitors. He should do this.
He will take you up to the deask, register area and write the number down and then start asking you some questions like how soon you need it or if you have ever considered a mismatched set, etc. This means he is wanting to make you a deal. He might ask if you can pick it up or need delivery, that sort of thing. let him go with this.
He should then offer you some sort of discount by using a drop story. I used to tell people that we had a set in the warehouse that was marked with an old sale price that we could honor. Even though its bs it sounds better than just giving a discount out of desperation.
Now remember you were looking at the 1500-2000$ price range. They are marked up at least 50% so you can buy these for 750-1000$ all day and they will be glad to sell them at that price. The more expensive the starting price the higher the markup is.
After they send you a strong signal that they are willing to drop the price you can just tell them that you will give him 750 out the door for it right now and be done with it if you feel comfortable doing that.
If someone told me that I would know the sale was over and I dont have anything left to do but take your money and go back to my newspaper when you left. Easy business.
They will offer you a mismatched set or no box or something like that. Tell them no, It has to be a matching set, that way there wont be any warranty concerns down the road. Delivery and removal have to be included as well.
If they dont budge then you will need to try another place and repeat the above.
I guarantee this will work.
Hope this helps."To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. The Simmons Beauty Rest was what we bought. Paid about $150 for a king size mattress.

back problems & the mattress that made it better.
I personally have a bad back (crushed disc in the L-5 region) and I was tired of hurting waking up in the morning. Finally, ( back in 2003) I dipped into my savings and bought a $2000.00 mattress by Natural Response, Night Rain series. The thought of spending such cash on a bed made me sick. Then I said to myself, "self, you going to spend 1/3 of your life sleeping, you mine as well by something good" Even my wife that I was nuts (she's not all that far off lol) buying a $2000.00 mattress from Bedding Barn. After we started sleeping on it, we realized it was worth every dime. We also bought two latex pillows along with the bed. To this day 5 + years later, when I wake up in the morning, I still say to myself, "I love this bed." that is how comfortable it is on me and my back. That is my own personal experience. I know two grand is a lot to toss around, but it beats any mattress I have ever had in my whole life. Best part, there are no springs in this bed to wear out. Speaking of sleep...off to dreamland I go. Hope this helps.

I have always had a bad back. I bought a Tempurpedic, I told the salesman I could get it for a lot less on the internet. He gave me the price I quoted him (even though I was lying through my teeth). I saved a bundle, plus free delivery.
But, I have a Serta Perfect Sleeper, Aurra now. And I have never slept better. But then again, I sleep alone now. Maybe, that was the trick!"Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all." - Sam Ewig

it cost me a lot of money but my tempur-pedic is awesome. I went through 3 beds before I settled on it and almost every time I lay down on it im glad I bought it. That said, ive heard both sides but over all not too many bad opinions from people who actually have the tempur-pedic and not a cheap imitation. Ive had it about 6 years now

Don't know if you have made a decision yet or not. Props to Crupiea for explaining from his first-hand experience.
All I can say is what worked for me. I tried a bunch of beds and mattresses. All brand names of all diff kinds. They all ended up giving me back problems. I tried many diff kinds. The Tempurpedic wasn't available when I was going through mattresses. They always ended up sagging in the middle and my back would give me problems.
Then I tried the Select Comfort ones and that all changed. I could dial in the firmness I wanted. The ex could dial in the firmness she wanted. It was nice to have a firmness we each wanted. I myself need a stiff mattress. She didn't.
Yes it's basically sleeping on an air mattress, but it doesn't feel like it since the air bladder is deep in the core of the mattress. If it ever feels like it is losing air or I want a diff firmness, I just dial it up or down. You can't get that with ANY other type of mattress no matter what the cost.
So for me, the Select Comfort is the ONLY mattress I will ever use again. I have NEVER had back problems since switching to this mattress. I felt so strongly about it, in the divorce paperwork, it was the one "thing" that I wanted spelled out that I get. Everything else was up for negotiation.
So that's my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

We had a Beautyrest for over 10 years. I was awesome....until we got a Temperpedic. Now I don't think I could go back. My husband has a crappy back. When we were shopping, I let him try them all out and narrow it down to a couple that he liked. I laid on his choices and I could tell right away the final bed. We got the one called Rhapsody. I don't think it's hot to sleep on. I also went through a couple pillows because they do feel different with this bed. I chose one that was a lot flatter than I would normally have.
Okay...the bed is awesome but this did not solve his back problem...it's nice for me but he still sounded like an old man in the morning.
Here's my next suggestion and this solved his back issues. We got an inversion table for $200 off craigslist. He uses it everyday. He went from taking loads of Aleve to nothing at all. Please take a look at these. I honestly think it can help.

(I'm only 175, thx for asking)

Interesting ideas from crupiea.
I've been sleeping on a futon for the past twenty years and don't even like sleeping on a mattress, not anymore. Last June, I took my family back to Canada for a visit, stayed in a hotel, and I actually slept on the floor for the entire week. (And no, my wife wasn't mad at me!).
OP,
For advice on a car---don't buy a convertible. (Ask BH about that--and BH, for what it's worth, I'd have totalled the scumbag if he'd done that to my car)."Don't call me Miss Kitty. Just...don't."--Catnip. Check out the Catnip Trilogy on Amazon.com
