    Need substitute for caseinate protein

I live in Thailand and caseinate protein is unheard of here. Having it shipped here from the US or Australia is far too expensive. Can anyone one suggest a food substitute for caseinate protein powder?

I use whey post workout. Whey is excellent for getting protein to the muscle fast, but because casein is digested slowly, it creates a steady rise in amino acids. The idea being that blood levels peak about one to two hours after drinking casein and remains elevated for up to seven hours. Thus, casein is a great protein to take before going to bed because it is absorbed slowly...this helps you recover faster from workouts and your muscles won't be starved of protein in the morning.

    Good morning.....

I'll throw out a comment here but I'm far from a wealth of knowledge on this.

I think I've read here that one could eat some low-fat complex carbs prior to, or with, a whey protein and therefore slow the protein assimilation?

Would this be an alternative to consider in your case?

Again, I'm remain on my perpetual learning curve with all this info we have available so correct me if I'm wrong on this.

    Thx and good luck.

Low fat cottage cheese or ricotta cheese contain casein.

**disclaimer** the above is only opinion. it contains no capitalization, too much punctuation and (most likely) includes spelling errors.

What about eggs? Great source of full protein, and fat to last through the night.

I like milk+whey but keep in mind that this is an insulogenic combination, even though there is casein in milk. So it may not be what he wants pre-bed.

Powdered egg whites, make a protein shake with them before bed
Yorkshireman I: Right! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill-owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

Cottage cheese and ricotta might be hard to find in Thailand.
Quark is popular in europe, and a good option too if you can get it.

All great ideas and cheers for all the responses - does anyone know how many grams of 'caseinate' protein in to one egg (minus the yolk)? Cottage cheese is a good choice but I?m not sure there would be sufficient caseinate per serving. I'd need at least 30 grams before bed.

Again thanks to all for the great responses

Casein is a milk protein. There is none in egg. You get about 32g protein from a cup of cottage cheese, although not all of it is casein.

An egg white has about 3g protein.

I was under the assumption that eggs contained caseinate - I was sure I read that somewhere. Thanks for the update and again thanks to all for the great responses.
