Can I get a car loan without "proof of income"?

Basically, I get money under the table for most things I do(helping out uncle, give diets and training workouts to people, so forth). I have good credit. I plan on putting around $1500-$2000 down and trading in my piece of **** car. I am assuming I would need my dad to possibly cosign the loan.. All I could have is bank statements showing I deposit money in there for "proof of income". I should mention, I am not expecting a new car.. just something for like 6,000-7000 so i am guessing I would need a $3500-4500 loan.

That might be tough. If ur putting down around 2k and the car is only 6-7k, ur dad wont just take out the loan for u and u can pay him back thats saying you get turned down for the loan.

the problem is the car would be in his name and he would need insurance on it to buy it, since I am on a separate insurance plan.

Yes you still can get a car loan without proof of income, they will want a large down payment though but it seems like you have that covered.

I kind of doubt it being that you can't show any legit income. Sure it's a small loan... but with that being said, the banks don't care because they aren't gonna make any $$$ off a 4 thousand dollar loan. Add to that that you can't prove your able to pay back an investment that is hardly earning the bank anything in the first place... and your screwed.

I'll be honest, I'd be surprised if you could get a loan on your own - actually, I'd be shocked. I've got a verifiable engineer's income, and I was turned down to increase my $500 limit on a card I've had 6 years (no debt). With your dad cosigning the loan, or being the primary holder of it, you'd have a much better chance, and likely you could get a better rate (more 'secure' buyers can negotiate down better). If your parents don't mind helping you by carrying the loan and you pay to them, it might be the easy way out - the negative being that you don't build credit on it; if you have a cosign on it, that may appear as credit history, although I'm not so well versed on that. Retrospect that may have been part of my mistake; when I was getting my first, I had that sort of a 'shield' and I paid my second car upfront in cash... didn't build a loan history. Ironically, I qualified for those loans. Go figure.

Have your dad cosign, that way you'll be the lienholder.

loans are hard to come by as of recent, you should have your parents take out the loan for the car. you will have a really high interest rate if you do it yourself, even with them as a cosigner

i just went through this, my credit is over 750, but i was denied my school loans... and with my parents i still had a pretty high rate, bc i had no income at the time other then gaspari (i ended up getting a federal graduate plus loan though)

Wow, $500 limit?? I got a $5000 limit on my card with a ton of perks and stuff. I was shocked because they said it was for only people with the "best credit" lol. I cant put it in my dads name. I am probably going to have him cosign though, as I know its probably the only way. I would pay cash but dont want to buy ANOTHER junker car for a year or two then get rid of it.

my parents cant take the loan out for me only cosign because of the whole insurance thing and they could take a personal loan out but those are a lot higher in interest rates.

It's pretty ridiculous IMO... I make $65k a year, I paid my car upfront recently, I live in no debt, no loans... but I can't buy a couch on my credit card. I go on a business trip and my hotel bill alone is more than my personal credit limit. Oh, and I have an unlimited corporate card just to taunt me

Went through the history... there's nothing screwy, it's just that there isn't a wide berth. I've got bank accounts since I was 10, and credit for the last 6 years - but I've always saved my money and then paid it upfront, so I never had a car loan, I didn't have any student/college loans (didn't qualify). I've never really had anything that I pay month to month yet, because if I haven't been able to pay it, I didn't get it. I've been doing it wrong apparently... we'll see how my prequal goes, I'm going to be going through that for about $250,000 or so.

Ever been autorejected over the phone with a message that says not to call to a direct representative, they will not help you? I have My credit is eh, 6 years with one late payment... but it seems to be that extending the credit isn't happening because I don't have enough credit (that makes sense to me, doesn't it to you?).

Have your dad cosign like you were thinking.. you will most likeyl get a nice single digit interest rate and if you are only financing 3500-4500 for 3 years your payments will be in the ~$150 a month range... very manageable payments.

thats the way to do it.. my credit is like 790+, even one dealership said I have 803.. i have like 4 cards n only use one really, pay everything off in full every month

good luck lookin for a car, is such a pain in the ass sometimes.. i just got a altima and fukin love it, but ya can never really go wrong with honda or toyota either

btw if you are looking to be the primary signer of the loan n car, u look into how much of an insurance spike yur gonna get (unless you already have own insurance?)? i duno how it is for u but for me in jersey here i got lucky since i just turned 24.. if i was still 23 id be payin 400 more a year.. if the insurance was higher than it is for me now i woulda had my rents take the loan/title and i'd just pay em monthly

as for loan places i mean ya just gotta look around, but even sometimes the dealerships (if thats the route youre going ie not buyin private) hav better rates and you can negotiate rates with them.. like i said i got 4.99 (could have been 1.99 if i bought a car from enterprise), but the dealers were coming at 5.99 and higher, not tooo too bad..

I've been working in the car business for 7 years, currently in sales and finance management at a Volvo dealer. There are quite a few variables that will play into you being able to secure this loan on your own. One of which, the dealer whom you are buying from, and their personal relationship with the lenders they do business with. Believe it or not that can go a long way.

Your absolute best bet these days is a credit union. Banks are much more picky than they used to be because of the economic situation. That would be the first avenue worth checking into on your own. A worthy co-signor would also alleviate any issues and get you a better interest rate. If you have that option, absolutely go for it.

POI - proof of income will not be a necessity if you do in fact have good credit like you say. Normally at your age though I see many people do have "good credit" score wise but have minimal history, which plays a big role and can cause the lender to put that stipulation towards an approval. The "loan" value of the vehicle will also cause stips on an approval.

My advice - look at your local credit unions rates online, choose 2 and put in an application to both. Also after the conditions come back with just yourself as the primary app, see what will suffice with your father being added and how much that will effect the terms.

Rarely companies will give you a loan for that little of an amount as a car loan; IME the cheapest banks will go for a car loan is 7k.

    Is this a serious thread?

Just threaten to deadlift all of the cars, then do it if they don't give you the loan.

You're correct regarding banking institutions generally speaking, Chase for example does have a minimum of 7k financed. However, most CU's will finance much smaller amounts.

your problem may end up being finding a car that is less than 5 years old and with low enough miles to finance that is worth only 6-7K...

most banks won't give you a loan for cars >5 years old and over a certain mileage because they just aren't valuable enough to secure a loan.
