Dorian Yates faced the Deepest Competion during his reign, true or false ?

Been watching a lot of olympias as of late (thanks to our youtube buddy)

I think Dorian faced the deepest competition during his reign compared with the other long reigning champs.

Dorian had everything from mass monsters like Naser and Dillett to contend with to Levrone, Flex, Chris cormier and Shawn Ray in their prime

Haney was awesome, but his main competition was Labrada (cmon) and Gaspari.

I don't think the competition was as deep during Ronnie, Jay's, Zane's or Arnold's reigns.

Ronnie was so ridiculously dominant during his reign that although he faced some of the same competitors as Dorian they were less of a challenge for him.

False, today is the deepest competition, with Phil Heath, the best bodybuilder ever, taking 10 Sandows in a row, while his opponents have incredible physiques and great personalities. And the 212 division is even better.

This is a false statement, you lack knowledge let me help fill in thr gaps. Coleman was destroyed by Gunter at the 2002GNC SHOW OF STRENGTH BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIP.

In addition to this, Gustavo Badell beat Ronnie in a challenge round at the 2005 Mr O.

6 years world number one, and 6 years un defeated Mr O Dorian never lost once since he took the number 1 position in the world, he was ahead both mentally and pysically.

in terms of shape and aesthetics; yes. in terms of size not really. the closest to his size was probably levrone or dillet. there is a reason why shawn ray, kevin levrone, nasser el sonbaty, paul dillet lee labrada and flex wheeler where in the top five and not number one. they didn't have the size to compete with dorian; it was a size game. don't get me wrong i love flex, dillet, levrone and ray but like i said it was a size game. now if you put dorian yates in ronnie colemans era coleman would have been stiff competition to say the least.
Kai Greene, Phil Heath, Cedric McMillan, Lionel Beyeke, Shawn Rhoden

Dorian didn't deserve a single sandow after 1994. Even at 1994 Ray should have won. He did not dominated. But yes, Dorian was agaisnt the best guys .. 90s was the greatest era of bodybuilding, with the toughest competitions. Coleman dominated Jay Cutler and Levrone. And he was ahead of them by far. Others werent even close.

I'd say 1993-2001 was probably some of the more intense olympias in terms of depth. After 2001 alot of the 90s superstars went down hill or retired. Seems to have been a lull in the mid 2000s, then picked up again.

It seems that pretty much anybody who follows bodybuilding seriously agrees that the Challenge round was a big joke. Not to take anything form Gustavo, but he won because of a bizarre scoring system and not because he had a better physique than Ronnie.

Very tough field back then, but I still think Heath would've been right up there at any point in the history of bodybuilding. I would PERSONALLY put him past even Coleman, but that's due to personal preference and I don't mean to suggest that he would've beaten Coleman in his prime.

if you look at it, i'd say the quality of physiques are better today. so many people had bad backs in the top lineup (compared to dorian, ronnie, kai, phil, etc) -> dillet, levrone, nasser, priest all had subpar backs compared to todays top lineup of phil, kai, vic, rhoden.
you can argue about conditioning this, conditioning that, but i'd say having a complete physique > conditioning (look how correa is the most conditioned 212er but flex lewis and david henry still beat him)

i was watching a few 90s top 6 o lineups on youtube the other day and this is my opinion from those videos

Dorian was in the easiest era to start a new trend, back when mass and conditioning weren't really tight together.
Dorian was a monster, Dillet was a monster, Levrone was a monster but Dorian topped that with some unreal conditioning.

you can argue about conditioning this, conditioning that, but i'd say having a complete physique > conditioning (look how correa is the most conditioned 212er but flex lewis and david henry still beat him)

i was watching a few 90s top 6 o lineups on youtube the other day and this is my opinion from those videos
Ray, Wheeler, Baker, Benaziza, Haney all had amazing backs. Levrone's back wasnt bad at all either. Im sure theres more but i cant think off top if my head.

yezir. and one fact people may not know is that dorian never cut his carbs before a show. he lowered them but never totally cut them out. he said he felt as though he lost size. levrone did the same thing too; he didn't do the whole carb up thing or anything fancy like that he just dieted down until he was shredded.

    subpar backs compared to rhoden?

90's didn't have better condition as a whole.

Look how many of todays physiques lack complete development. When we have guys like Branch and Wolf winning shows, we know the competition lacks depth and isn't tight like the 90s. In the 90s there were lots of tops guys, now we really only have 2, phil and kai.

This. When you really look there are some poor looking physiques in the top 10s. Kai and Phil are safe. Rhoden had added to that. Wolf looks like a sack if sh*t. Even Freeman looks poor now. Its nothing like the 90s when just about everyone looked well put together. It might pick up if Vic gets back lookin good and Cedric carries on but at the moment its not too good IMO.

Also, Dorian typically dominated multiple shows a year. Not just qualifying for the "O" and doing one show a year. One prep slip would have cost him positions easily.

I would actually agree 100% with this. Dorian was dominant.....but like a lot of things Ronnie was on another stratusphere!

Others werent even close.
why do you feel Ray should have won in 94? He was smaller and less conditioned than Dorian
