I don't usually post in this forum but I have to stand up for my city.
Firstly it's true that there are not many "attractions" in the Sydney or Melbourne sense.
But seriously, how many sydneysiders are doing the fuking bridge climb every weekend?
Or going to see a performance at the Opera House?
I guarantee I go more often than most locals.
Apart from the beaches, I reckon Sydney's much of a muchness and better for international tourists.
Sorry to sound butt-hurt but I know heaps of people who moved here to join the APS and do nothing but complain how there's nothing to do here ("Melbourne's sooo much better, it's so fun, it has everything I want except decent employment prospects!").
Having said that, Questacon is for kids, so I'd avoid it unless you're embracing your inner child or are generally nostalgic.
Just down the road, however, are the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery, which are more ''grown-up" and well worth a visit.

buttermilk anything FTW!!!
Ha! Ectomorph
True story. The day after my last comp, I met a friend for lunch...stuffed our faces with sushi then went next door for some frozen yogurt. Next door to that was a donut shop and I thought I'd grab a couple donuts for later. I chose an apple fritter and a blueberry cake donut. Went to pay with card and there was a "minimum" you had to spend...so I said, "hell, throw a jelly-filled and a boston creme in there too." My next stop was Wal-Mart...which was 2 minutes away. Demolished all 4 of those babies before I even pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot.
