Pretty sure sexual orientation is different from gender identity. You don't know what being a man or a woman means until you've experienced male or female sex hormones in sufficient quantities. You can know you like boys before you reach sexual maturity; I'm not sure you can decide how you feel about the menstrual cycle. And regardless of whether you think gender is a social construct or not, you certainly must concede that at the very least it's a social construct heavily influenced and shaped by biology.

I am curious, if he is allowed to use the girl's restroom, what about high school? Is he going to be allowed to try out for the girls basketball team? Shower with the girls in gym class? Where does it stop? I hope the parent's realize they can only push this thing so far.

I've actually been to a few bars/restaurants that have eliminated gender separate washrooms. Really, once you're in a stall, what difference does it make?

This is another issue entirely. Unfortunately I don't know if there is a fair way to approach this. Although the same could be said about people that have undergone a gender change. As far as the showering part goes, how would having someone who identifies themselves as a girl, regardless of body type, in with the girls, make anyone feel less comfortable than having a homosexual woman in there? It still comes down to respecting others, and not making an issue of it.

I might have a slightly different view than most on this, having grown up in two households, weekends with my straight father, and weekdays with my mother and her partner. My moms partner, who I consider my stepmom, and has been every bit as much of a parent to me, felt that she was born the wrong sex when she was growing up. She identified herself with the boys for years growing up, and still does in many ways, although she opted not to have a gender swap.

For generations there have been cases of Johnny likes to play with his sisters dolls, or Jane is a tomboy who likes to play like the boys. None of us have any clue what challenges a transgender faces - let alone a kid who can't put into words what they feel. I feel for these people, I know 2 that have serious challenges - and they're weird people. It's not just this gender thing that's odd, they're all sorts of ****ed up! Very socially inept etc.
