Why doesn't caffeine do anything for me?

I've been doing a lot of research trying to find out why exactly my body doesn't react to caffeine, and I can't figure out why.

Recently, I purchased some White Flood after reading all over these forums that it is badass. I was hoping it'd give me some extra energy at the gym and to be honest, I didn't feel anything.

The only thing is, this didn't surprise me. Why? Because I am NEVER hyper. Not to say I don't have energy. I never feel lethargic and overall consider myself a healthy person. However, I can't drink coffee because it gives me headaches, and drinks like rockstar, redbull, and monster don't give me an energy boost whatsoever. I can literally drink anything and fall asleep immediately afterward.

What gives? Anyone else have this issue?

yeah, im the same way, i wish i responded to energy products and stimulants. Redline did make me a bit jittery, which was a signal it was effecting me.

Could be a tolerance issue. Try staying off of stims for a month and then try it out again.

you could always try my heartattack mix. brew about 4 cups worth of coffee into the volume of one, ice it, chug it, and hit the gym. it works pretty savagely. i dont do it all that often and you have to be fully hydrated. although i noticed your not a big coffee guy, so it may not be ideal. i feel that mix should come with a safety discaimer or something

Like I said, it's not that I dislike coffee, it's that it gives me a terrible headache, borderline migraine status. I don't know what's in it that does it.

Do you take any supplements? How many hours of sleep do you usually need/take each night?

Coffee raises adrenaline levels which causes blood vessels to constrict a little, so maybe that's the headache.

I take WF, ON 100% Whey, Fish Oil, and Animal Stak for a multi. That's about it. I was gonna start taking some other stuff, but I figured I'd start with WF and see how well that does before I implement a bunch of other things.

I get 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

Okay so I guess to add on to my first statement...

Today was my 4th day on WF. The previous three days, I took it in the evening after I got home from work and worked out between 8PM and 11PM (Usually start somewhere in there because that's when I have time).

However, today I took it about an hour after I ate breakfast (which was just my morning shake w/ 2 scoops ON, 3 tbsp of Natty PB, a large banana, and a cup of skim milk) and about 20 min before my workout and holy hell, it gave me a rush. Does it have anything to do with the fact that maybe there was nothing in my stomach yet, aside from my shake?

Well I don't think animal stak is a multi, unless you confused it with animal pak.

Anyways, animal pak is full of vitamins that bypass the excitant effect of caffeine, that's why you don't feel the rush or hyperness. Specificaly it's the B-vitamins, calcium, magnesium and copper that "maintain" your calmness. Try quitting the multi for a few days and then take caffeine, you'll get the rush!
The most coffee will do for you now is keep you awake and raise adrenaline levels(mild headaches).

    I meant Pak, not stak.

And I'm about 99.99% sure that my multi-vitamin has nothing to do with caffeine's effect on my body. I've never read anything like that, and everyone on these forums takes a multi.

yes. the less you have in your stomach the better for the flood. oh, and if you're getting headaches, up your water intake. that always tkaes away my headache. if you're caffiene resistant, but a bottle of caffiene pills, they're SUPER cheap, add one of those to the white flood. that'll do er.

stims are the most effective on empty stomach. I'm wiling to bet you're one of those people who are just very happy in life and dont realize it. When I was happy, i paid no attention to how caffeine effected me. I drank coke withot even realizing that it had caffeine. My friends who are hapy people would say "caffeine doesnt do anything to me". But when you're depressed, tired or whatever, you can actually notice the caffeine give you the lift

I know that before I took my v-vitamins, green tea would exacerbate my depression and anxiety, it also made me agitated and hyper.

Now I consume caffeine with my vitamins and it has a mild stimulant effect on me.

The fact is that b-vitamins and copper raise serotonin levels in your brain, so this calming chemical counteracts the excitant effects of caffeine. Not to mention that magnesium and calcium are physical and mental relaxants themselves.

I don't recall much people on this board telling us that coffee is their thor's hammer. In fact, most people seem to be worshipping creatine-based products with caffeine only as a minor side-kick.

Alright so from now on I'll be taking it on an empty stomach. It doesn't state anywhere to take it on an empty stomach, so that would be the issue I suppose.

And yeah, I am a happy person haha. Life's too short to be depressed

Like the other guy said, get some caffeine pills.

A shot of espresso has about double the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, and a 200mg caffeine pill has the same amount of caffeine as 2 shots of espresso. Depending on what I'm doing I've taken anywhere from 200mg to 1000mg before my workout, and it always has an effect on me. Just make sure to not take 1000mg if you're not working out, because it'll make you feel dizzy and tired. Remember, caffeine is actually a poison, a defense mechanism in plants so that animals don't eat them.

I've actually put on more weight since the last time I updated that, so I'm around 220. I didn't think that would've made much of a difference tho, haha.

Caffeine doesn't do anything for me either. Actually with concentrated amounts (vivarin, nodoze, etc.) it sometimes puts me to sleep. The only thing that I have found to give me a boost is the products high in vitamin B. The 5 hour energy and zip fizz are two that I have had good results with. I like the zip fizz product. It has 41,667% of the daily recommended amount. That is 1/2 of a vitamin B shot your doctor would give you. Drink it with a bottle of water (comes in powder) in about 15 min and it should give you a boost. But for me, it just keeps me from nodding off during the day. I am on REDuction right now and still feel drowsy once or twice a day. This is no matter how much sleep I get. From 4 hours to 10, it doesn't matter.

Where do you get that stuff?

And is too much Vitamin B dangerous? 41,667% of anything seems like an overabundance :P

Any chance you may have ADHD?

People with ADHD have a paradoxical calming reaction to stimulants including caffeine. The ADHD medications Ritalin and Adderal are in fact strong stimulants that actually fail to induce the typical stimulant reactions in those with ADHD.

I'm positive I don't have ADHD haha. Interesting suggestion, but no, I'm a very healthy, normal individual
