Question What do you girls usually wear to the gym?

I see all kinds of cute sport tops with built-in bras and such out there in the stores, but I haven't seen very many women--much less women who actually touch the weights-- in my gym wear them. They do look really cute (like fitness models, sans the muscle), but I fear that I might have a wardrobe malfunction while lifting. So, I ponder: what do you guys wear to the gym? I, personally, wear grey or black sweat pants and band/concert tees with a sports bra that actually don't give me the 'gelatinous boobs' look and my Nikes, but I don't wear lifting gloves... yet. I'm not sure why, but I'm scared to don the lifting gloves, but, then again, I am a novice to the weights.

I like to wear jogging pants and a loose, comfortable shirt to sweat in. Nothing glamarous.

I wear shorts or sweats and a t-shirt. I never pay attention to what I wear at the gym, I concentrate on what I do. It looks really funny when girls come into the gym wearing sexy clothes. They think people guys look at them but they just look silly. the more natural you are the better.

A tank top and soffes, normally. I'll wear some form of pants (sweat pants/training pants/yoga pants) if it's cold and I'm not working legs.

I actually used to wear clothes like that to the gym and to workouts all the time, but in my current gym t-shirts are mandatory, so I gave all my cute stuff to my sister. I personally find t-shirts uncomfortable and that they are too restrictive. The collar close to my neck drives me crazy, and I hate working out with sleeves...but rules are rules. I love the freedom of movement that a well designed sports top provides, as well as the extra ventilation.

So now I usually wear a pair of shorts and an old t-shirt that I bought at a competition years and years ago.

cotton shorts or capris, fitted cotton tee or tank. I don't like to wear big baggy shirts and sweatpants because I like to be able to see my muscles somewhat, but I'm not dipped in spandex either lol

Guys do look, they just do it sneaky out of respect. Although perhaps the females that wear that sort of thing want guys to look haha.

Seriously though, sometimes if a female walks by in something really sexy the nearest person will glance at me to see if I notice, then give a slight "Hell yeah" nod with a bit of a smile.

The only time I really find apparel amusing is if someone is clearly doing it for attention, and they really aren't doing much in terms of exercise/working out. What I mean is those that dress to show off their body then spend a good deal of time walking around while on breaks, chatting, looking in the mirror and admiring themselves, etc. These people are clearly dressing that way for the attention. People that are working hard, I just figure they are dressed how they are because of comfort.

My gym is surrounded by mirrors (every wall is a mirror) so I can't help but notice peoples odd little habits/what they wear.

I'm such a tomboy...I see all these girls in brand new fancy workout tops and expensive shiny spandex, and I'm there on the treadmill in a Hanes "wife beater" or another, usually cotton, tank top and soccer shorts. Pretty much the same stuff I would wear the track or rugby practice in high school and college. I do wear spandex leggings on lifting days because I don't get quite as hot as when I'm doing cardio and then I don't have to shave :-D.

as a guy i can confirm this, the serious lifters such as myself that go there to actually train will glance once or twice but thats about the extent of it, otherwise its completely impractical clothing, i've also noticed the majority of 'sexy clothes' wearers are also the ones that walk at 3 kmph on the treadmill for half an hour before moving on to the abs/obliques machines...

much respect for a woman in shorts/pants + t-shirt that goes to the gym to TRAIN.

on a side note, i do see a lot of 'fit' women in the spandex, wouldnt it be crazy uncomfortable to train in cause it'd make you hot and would ride up heaps? my boxers fit me and i spend 3/4 of my time 'adjusting' cause they ride up continuously and its soooooo uncomfortable!!

Yeah ur right those girls really do walk in a crazy slow speed. I have seen many girls who come into the gym wearing clothes by Pink and they just come in there to chatt and be cool cuz they go to the gym. I say us girls on BB.com should show that we can be strong athletic and not care about the make up for at least an hour a day......

A men's tshirt, mens cargo shorts or gym shorts, a sweatshirt if I am feeling self confident over the t-shirt and a baseball hat or bandanda. As long as I am clean, I'm happy. I'm sure once I get leaner and more defined, I'll start wearing my tshirts w/ cut off cleaves. If my boobs shrink like I think they will, I'll start wearing tanktops maybe. Some of these girls work out in these spagetti strapped tops to show off their implants or something showing their mid section.

I dress "sexy" at the gym, it makes me feel better about myself. Not all of us who dress "sexy" are wanting attention from men. But I do know the kind you are talking about, the kind that carry a fendi bag around with them do 15 minutes on a elliptical and call it a day lol

Actually I find that a proper training sport top breathes sooo much better than a cotton t-shirt. Key to that is "proper" a well designed training outfit should fit you properly, wick moisture away from your skin, breathe, support, and allow for movement. I actually find my cotton shorts are horrendous for riding up on me, and I'm constantly adjusting that and my t-shirt. It drives me nuts!

I came from a sport where training in spandex is the norm (wind resistance and rotation allowance), and now whenever I train I wear spandex underneath my shorts so that I'm not worried about them riding up as much and showing something I dont want to show. Spandex is not the same as cotton boxers, spandex is generally a shiny material that is fairly slick to the touch on the outside thus it doesn't catch on itself and ride up the way that cotton will.

Remember that not all people do it for attention, and really don't knock it until you try it

Boxers are terribly inefficient and are perhaps the worse designed underwear there is. I'd rather go commando then wear any (I don't own any actually). I'm pretty sure all boxers ride up regardless of if they "fit" for not, which is indeed pretty annoying/uncomfortable. Boxer briefs ftw.

And I don't wear spandex but nahh, its actually not so bad if it fits properly.

I usually wear a pair of shorts and a T-shirt ot a pair of black gym pants and a T-shirt.

I am known for going to gyms where we get dirty from chalk and tire flipping so i am not going to spend $100 bucks on pants to wear to the gym.

Odd thing is though, I LOVE wearing cute gym clothes outside of the gym. Lululemon makes some great comfy clothing meant for the gym/yoga but i will wear it to go shopping or hiking instead.

I, personally, wear grey or black sweat pants and band/concert tees with a sports bra that actually don't give me the 'gelatinous boobs' look and my Nikes, but I don't wear lifting gloves... yet. I'm not sure why, but I'm
scared to don the lifting gloves, but, then again, I am a novice to the weights.
I wear the sports tanks, mostly from Athleta or Nike. They are very comfortable to workout in, no malfunctions! I do both cardio and lifting in them. I generally wear a long sleeved Tshirt over them until I get hot (I HATE being chilly in the gym, ours is always cold). I don't think they are overly "sexy" or whatever, tons of women wear them. Its nice to be able to see your muscles work. I don't like sweatpants either, and yes, I do usually wear "spandex" lol. Long pants or capris. And a baseball cap. Can't forget that essential item. Now, there are Brazilian or whatever fitness outfits that are also tanks and tight pants, but they look very different from my basic Nike wear.

I usually wear a plain ribbed tank top and soffe shorts. For some reason I can't stand wearing long pants it just makes me overheat!

Linds33 - My lulu stuff has held up really well to chalk and tire flips. My favourite pair of pants are still in perfect shape despite a year of hard training. At this point, I'm not sure what I'd have to do to destroy them...

To the OP: I've tried all kinds of shorts and pants and settled on Lululemon groove pants and crops. They don't ride down in the middle of a work out, bunch up or chafe so they're super comfortable. They also wash well and the material can take a beating and not get ruined. They're expensive but end up worth it based on how well they hold up. For a top, I'll wear a racer back style tank because I like having my arms free. If I'm doing squats, though, I'll toss on a tshirt otherwise my back gets pretty marked up from the bar.

Then again, I'm an old lady so of course I'm going to be in the spandex workout gear. Ha!

HA! I almost didn't post what I wore due to that comment, lol!

I love Lulu too. I wear mostly Margarita pants and capris with various sports tops. They last forever and they fit so well that I never notice them. I don't like baggy clothes when I am working out, I like them to fit close to my body so that they don't bother me. The plus is that Margaritas make your butt look super cute too, lol.

C'mon girls, you can be pretty and badass all at the same time.

Capris and various sport tanks from Bia Brazil. I can't stand anything loose brushing against my skin when I'm training...it drives me crazy.

The clothes are expensive but they last forever. I just bought a new outfit the other day. The last outfit I bought was back in 08 and it still looks brand new.

    For me, it's an investment.

    Excellent!

My personal gym wear is stretchy yoga-type pants and a sleeveless top or racer back tank. Can't stand stuff around my arms when I'm lifting.
