The closest example to an Arnold resurgence is when Ferrigno made his comeback during the 90's. I thought he looked remarkable, like he had never missed a step, but the best he could manage was 10th in '93. Based on their previous encounters, I think it's plausible to surmise that Arnold could have placed higher. The exact placing doesn't really matter because it's purely speculation.
What we do know is how well they compared in Pumping Iron, and Lou was able to take his physique a step further. At the '92 Olympia, he reportedly tipped the scales at ~300lbs, and it showed. IMO, that kind of progress is a strong indication of what Arnold might have been capable of with today's advancements. I realize it's impossible to actually know; but if one of his contemporaries could improve, why couldn't he?Lifetime natural bodybuilder, and certified nutritionist.

Yes but he did that to bring his calves up to match the rest of his body. He trained for Proportions, not to max out every individual muscle. If his legs needed to be bigger (which they didn't) he would have made them bigger. Its Arnold, I believe he would have excelled in any era.

not much to do with this thread, but anyways here goes...... Lou didnt deserve 10th place, he looked like a mess, had a horrible structure. calf implants, its goes on and on, But he is LOU FERRIGNO, sponsored by Weider, and is a celeb in AMerica. they dont want to see him bow out with a meagre 15th place and beyond. Lou placing 10th mans absolutely nothing in this argument. Had Arnie been born in 1970, and display his genetics at 19, he still wouldnt have been anything. There are thousands of bodybuilders these days, Sure Arnie would have been much better than he was in the 60s and 70s, but did he hav the genetics to trouble the mutants of the 90s......NO, NO NO NO NO.

Anytime an iconic figure returns to the stage, after a lengthy hiatus, people are going to question the validity of their placings. Whenever there's controversy, we commonly hear that someone was either robbed or gifted a spot, especially after a new crop of competitors have risen to prominence.
As far as this thread is concerned, all we can do is speculate. Given the politics involved, there's no telling where Arnold could have placed if he'd comeback in the 90's. You said it yourself, being "sponsored by Weider, and a celebrity in America", are factors that carry influence. I'm just glad that we can both agree on one thing, the portion in bold.Lifetime natural bodybuilder, and certified nutritionist.

he was the best amongst his peers, his peers being the cream of the genetic crop. Be that response to supps work ethics etc. He may very well have the response xfactor to be truly huge like ronnie given the same supps. Who knows?
His legs were not smaller than his peers, they were bigger and more seperated than most. makes no sense to assume they would be a weakness. Logically you would assume they would be a non standout body part.
