    Question Women and testosterone boosters

Are there any women who have taken test boosters? Is it effective? Is it safe? I don't like messing with my hormones but I wanna see if anyone has had experience with these. Thanks!

I have not, and dont ever plan to. But one of the best things you can do to stimulate endogenous testosterone is to eat enough cholesterol, which is a precursor of testosterone (this was a Nobel prize-winning discovery). Hope that helps.

And then have a heart-attack from the cholesterol.

There are specially designed testosterone boosters for women. You could try DHEA. Any of these will not cause side effects like a PH would.

It really depends on what you are looking for in a testosterone booster? Size? Fat loss? Sex drive? etc.....

Size would be the main thing, but I have a hard time picturing myself using test boosters. I'm already on birth control pills to help regulate my period so throwing testosterone into the mix probably wouldn't be good. At the same time I fear that I am not gaining as much as I could due to the bc pills

BC pills mess with women's hormones. On top of that, people often avoid cholesterol like the plague. Cholesterol-suppressors (lipitor, etc) are also the most prescribed drug in this country. No wonder, women have so much trouble gaining muscle mass.

And no zombieang, if you carefully read the literature, it is not the cholesterol you eat that causes disease, it is the stuff the body makes on its own.

All steroid hormones are naturally synthesized from cholesterol (through pregnenolone) under the control of the anterior pituitary gland, which produces andrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH, or corticotropin), a polypeptide that stimulates the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone. The steroid hormones activate gene expression by binding to enhancer proteins, called steroid receptors. Deficiency of the enzyme 21-hydroxylase is the most common steroid-related in-born metabolic disorder, but treatments are available for this condition...Because all steroids are derived from cholesterol, the numbering and nomenclature follow that of cholesterol.

Ok fellas, I looked for recent articles relating to strength training and muscle growth. You got me.

So... How much cholesterol is ideal then to stimulate muscle growth in women? How much dietary cholesterol per lb should one consume?

I'll stick to what I know. Change the way you train - Train with compound movements wherever possible. The more muscles you can stress with one lift (i.e. Squats & Deadlifts), the higher your testosterone output will be.

I supplemented DHEA& Saw Palmetto once. It made me very aggressive. I don't know if I made any significant gains on it.

You are young and your body already produces DHEA. Supplementing with additional DHEA will probably aromatize into MORE estrogen. You will probably experience breast swelling & tenderness, etc. etc.

You could try tribulus. It is said to be a natural testosterone booster for women, and also has a normalizing effect on hormonal balance. I think what you really seek is a hormone balancing supplement. I have had great success with Myomin (google energetic nutrition), and so-so success with DIM (all herbally based). Look in homeopathics, as well.

    Don't touch PH.

Take home message: Never, ever mess with your natural hormonal balance. Especially if you are young! BC pills are a personal decision, but even those pills are an artifical shot of hormones.

I know you didn't ask, but I am going to suggest anyway: get off your BC pills, and try BC methods unrelated to hormonal supplementation. Inconvenient perhaps, but much better for your health, and fitness goals.
No excuses, just do it and do it TODAY!!

Anything worth having takes time and effort.

I like what Bugga wrote here. I am new but I can say this with EXPERIENCE... Messing with your hormones is not a good thing. I had to have surgery and went into surgerical menopause last year. The artificial hormones on my body are reaking havoc!!! I could not imagine messing with natural hormones in the body when you do not have too.

If you have a true concern, why not search for a hormone doctor in your area and discuss with him? Or really stress to your reg doctor who put you on BC that you do not like it and explain WHY. Most of they time they do listen. Good luck!
    I am just peachy :)

women naturally have testosterone in there bodies, just as men naturally have estrogen in there bodies...both of with on the low side of course but it is there. A sligth increase in testosterone can do wonders for women, with ZERO to Minimal sides if done correctly..I STRESS IF DONE CORRECTLY.

If you choose to use a test boster (not that I think they work), but the best way would be to start at a VERY VERY LOW dose, and slowly work yourself up each week, untill the point you start to notice sides (then cut back, so you know your own tolerance)..or to the point you have reached your desired effects.
I do not sugar coat things, but you got in the condition you're in by "sugar coating."

why are you quoting me? I dont take that stuff I know better..

Tribulus is not created for women either it pretty much works the same as DHEA.

Also although BC is a hormone its also recomended by doctors for young women to help regulate the menstral cycle. The hormones you are putting into your body do not effect your estrogen levels..
I know that my doctor actually told me that in my case BC is better for me even when I was 13 and using the best way of BC, abstinence...

I do agree however that you should never mess with your hormone levels ie. test or estro. There are plenty of natural ways to gain size and strength..

wait wait wait....you dont think birth control is estrogen, or effects your estrogen levels? most birth controls ARE estrogen or progesterone...even YAZ is a combo of 2 with one being a low dose estrogen and diuretic.

    Not true.

DHEA is used by both sexes and will convert into the hormone that is occurring at a lower level in the body. Women are prescribed DHEA to increase testosterone levels or even estrogen.

    Fail.

I was told my supplement rep that most test boosters will make your bc ineffective and so you need a back before taking them.. (I've been considering a test booster myself..but I've not put together enough researched yet to have made a choice) but if that's true personally before I would consider a test booster I would drop the birth control pills... see how ya do without them.

the answer to this is true and false..... it will make your bc ineffective, however in high enough doses in the body testosterone will cause a female to stop menstrating. so its its own form of BC
I do not sugar coat things, but you got in the condition you're in by "sugar coating."

I've been doing some research on naturally boosting my test levels.. I'm planning on trying a few things in this area before moving onto a supplement booster.. persoanlly I don't take bc .. and I'm looking at adding a nettle root and ofcoarse I already take vit c w/ flavin, zinc and zma at night.. and I hmm sorta have sex every morning before working out.. it's suppose to help but it's sort of a solo practice right now! From what I've read you get a better response with partnered sex as opposed to ya know solo.. lol

Also because of long training hours I'm sleeping 10 hours at night sometimes more and napping during the day.. I think I need to up my fat intake though I'm pretty sure I'm not getting enough fat in my diet.

awwww do you need a group hug? LOL j/k.....

I am not a huge fan of test boosters, never really found one that worked, even in women. dont be afraid to try it, maybe it will work for you, but trust me, there will be no profound effect

    you are right
when I wrote that my main goal was to say that it is harmless.. it is used for other reasons than preventing birth..
i did not mean to say it did not have estrogen in it..

"As discussed in a previous article, both were sub 15% body fat to start with, and although they didn't have a hard time staying fit while on the pill, whenever they tried to kick it up a notch to get lean, they'd struggle mightily"
-The average adult body fat is closer to 22%-25% for women..

"Of course, these are just two examples"
-2 women? wow that must mean every woman is the same..(sarcasm)

"In addition to potential cancer risks as well as a potential negative impact on body composition progress, another birth control risk hangs heavily over many young women."
-The sun is a potential risk of cancer and many supplements have negative impacts on the body...

"Indeed, the two women mentioned above had been on the pill since they were both 16. Since both weren't sexually active at the time, and since the pill gave them great sexual difficulties years later, they just assumed that either sex was unpleasant or that there was something wrong with them."
-Been on the pill since 13 and have no problem with sexual intercourse or arousal

"an increase in body fat, specifically in the lower body and the upper arms, or difficulty losing fat in these same areas when increasing exercise volume or decreasing food intake."
-I find it extreamly difficult to gain weight. When I started the pill 7 years ago I was 110lbs i am 112 now-

Over all this was a great read very interesting but I dont know how reliable it is. Everyone is effected diffrently and the points made in the article are bogus (IMO) cancer can be caused by ANYTHING these days and I dont think sex drive has anything to do with fitness.. Also how old were these women.. they have been taking the pill since they were young but if they are in thier 30s now they might have been goin through that biologcal time period where the sex drive goes up.. Either way this post is about if she should take DHEA I still stick with no!
