Unhappy What happen to your muscle when you get old(50)?

do you think when you get old all of your muscle will turn into fat.It will be sagging everywhere unless you exercise hard enough to keep all of the hard work youve done during the years.

What do you think will happen to all of your hard work you put in your body to gain muscle?

I saw a guy who must have been 55 lean as **** and he was absolutely jacked. Probably one of the best physiques of any guy any age at the gym. 18 inch arms, very few wrinkles, small waist, huge shoulders and super vascular. He looked like Frank Zane. Obviously not natty but still in good condition despite being older.

If you keep eating as much as usual and your intensity and frequency diminsihes then youll get out of shape. At 40+ though you should be looking to maintain.

After age 40 you will start to lose a small percentage of muscle every year. (I think that goes for regular males) But as you can see Ronnie was in his best shape at 43, some guys are over 50 and still jaxxed...

Chances are, in a good 20/30 years, taking small amounts of testosterone after reaching late 40's will be common. Basically there's a world of health benefits in taking small controlled amounts just to keep your levels steady, so there'll likely be a more fit men around at that age.

Yea, I heard about this one. It's called Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), basically you go to a doctor and he PRESCRIBES you Testosterone. A lot of old people still compete, they even have a special 70+ division in the Olympia but nobody cares much about it.

Look Oldsuperman's bodyspace and thats your answer. Btw your retarded "muscle to fat" you just keep working out and you can continue to build muscle.

this. thats jut like proteins cant turn into carbs. the reason older peope get out of shape is because they stop working out bu keep alot of the sae diet habits, so they are gaining excess weht and not doing anything to burn it off. if you keep liftng, your muscle wont dissipate, and you wont be a catabolic, fat-storing mess.

look at the old guys who stil lift!
arnold, lou ferrigno, serge nubret and a plethora of others.

not one of them is fat, they still look close to competiton ready.

its not Converted to fat thats jut what people say who are too lazy to read the actual studies an just listen to what they hear.

excess protein is Stored in the same way as excess fat is stored, which pretty much has the same effect as fat, but the protein isnt converted. it is mdeof completely different molecules and doesnt have any lipos or phospholipids to be converted into fat. but it can be stored in an unhealthy way if thats what ur saying.

i dont think that excess protein is the problem for old people unless they completely stop lifting. i think it is just the excess food in general with a more relaxed routine. if they stop lifting, they wouldnt get fat if they ate like a normal person, but they keep thir old eating habits with them.

protein is not stored.. it has 2 fates:
    1) broken down into amino acids for protein synthesis (to repair and build new muscle tissue)
    2) broken down into glucose to be used for energy

can protein make you fat? yes, indirectly it can. if you took in more calories than you burnt off and those calories happen to come from protein, well those calories aren't stored, they just inhibit fat oxidation, causing you to oxidate less fat, thus your body holds onto more of the fat since it has exceeded it's calorie needs.

It can, actually, look up gluconeogenesis. The amino acids can be converted into glucose and then potentially stored as fat. The body doesn't often do the amino acid conversion, but it has the pathways to do so.

glucose is not stored as fat.. it's stored as glycogen in the muscle and liver. geez, you two are both arguing, and neither of you know what you're talking about..

that is highly unlikely.. you'd have to consume probably around 700-900g of carbs per day for a few days in order for those stores to spill over.

Oh, yes, calories. Because calories are not in anyway connected with carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

Most people get fat because they eat lots of simple carbs, as well as fat.

What a Stupid question... 1st of all there is no way a muscle cell can turn into fatty tissue. 2nd of all, it's not as if your muscles stay with you throughout 30 years at the same size, once you stop working out your body will automatically use it as an energy source even if you maintain caloric intake. 3rd of all, 50 is not a magic number, atrophy begins as soon as you stop a stimulant.

    Please don't ask Dumb questions.

that's not what we were arguing.. i basically said these guys are arguing with each other and they are both wrong. people can get just as fat eating too much protein then they can eating too much sugar.. it's those excess calories that cause fat gain one way or another.

-Even protein rich foods tend to have more carbs than protein, it is hard to eat enough protein to get fat.

-Protein gives off more heat than carbs and fats, which raises the metabolism and makes it harder to gain fat off eating it.

So its highly unlikely that you would get fat off eating protein unless it was absolutely massive amounts,
