I usually use the same settings in the same dark environment. I think I use f22 and will play with the iso on a few shots until I like them. Not much worry about noise and the camera reduces any anyways. No filter but I bump the contrast up a little if the black isn't black enough or I get any lightwash on the background I don't want. If you could see how crude the set-up is you would laugh. Junk tire/christmas lights/small wands/scotch tape.

You probably know this already, but switching from f/22 to f/16 (at ISO 100) is about the same as going from ISO 100 to ISO 200 with the aperture at f/22. The camera's sensor will record the same amount of light, but the depth of field will be different. If you're going from ISO 100 to ISO 400, you can get the same effect by staying at ISO 100 and switching from f/22 to f/11. (I'm assuming that the shutter speed stays constant.) If you're not super close to your subject, you probably don't need the depth of field that you get from f/22. f/16 or f/11 will probably work. The wider aperture (smaller f numbers) should also reduce chromatic aberrations.
I don't know if you'll actually get better results by reducing the ISO and opening up the aperture, but it's something to experiment with...▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

I am so close that I have to use a screw on wide angle attachement at 18mm. I hate it but don't have the money for 10-22 lens just yet.My workspace is only about 10x10 and I don't want to give up any gym space. That tree was shot about 3-4 ft away and it is 7' tall.I have been looking to do some outdoor stuff at night but my neighborhood is a little sketchy at times and I haven't found anybody with the same interest in my area.I dig the abandoned building and culvert/tunnel stuff but not around here.I just got a bunch of el wire colors to play with so those will be next sets along with some mandalas I have ideas for.I would also like to paint some nude girls with light but my wife would probably frown on me hanging out in the dark with hot naked chicks. I dig this guys work.

Hmm... if you're that close, you might actually need f/22. Not really sure. I still think it's worth experimenting with it. (It's not like you're wasting film...)
Cool website you found. But my wife would definitely not be okay with me hanging out in the dark with hot naked chicks either.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

Welcome back JFindon. Sorry to hear about all the crap you are going through, and good luck at the doc in January.
This cracked me up.

Well after much debate/thinking I decided to sell the 85s, 90s, and 100s hex dumbbells I have. With the money I'm making off them I am hopeful I can complete my 5-75 set (the original goal).
I lack 35s, 40s, 50s, 55s, 65s, and 70s still. But Dynabody (local used equipment/gym) had a recent ad with their DBs going for $0.39 a pound. And with Play it Again selling used at $0.45 a pound I'm pretty confident I can pick them up somewhat easily.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #56 ▪█─────█▪

*Sigh* speaking of firearms... some breaking bad news if you haven't seen. Now the debate is fueled back up it will just be one more thing to distract current politics away from the economy and immigration
At least it's nice jacket weather... makes it nice to carry......stuff...... when out and about in case one of these cowards tries that somewhere in my presence.
On a better note..... check it out! New gym flooring... all 450#s of it in all it's glory. FOund someone selling it local, got 4x 4' x 12' x 3/8" for $300. Saved at least $200 on shipping by getting it local.

Those poor kids- obviously the ones that were shot, but the ones who were there. I can't even imagine what the families are going to go through. I don't even want to send my kids to school anymore. Disgusting.
I hate that these people are such pussies. I can't understand why anyone would want to shoot someone for no reason, especially children. What could have a K-4th grade kid have done? Never seen it, but maybe....
Everyone's going to make political hay out of this in the weeks to come, makes me sick. Something else that bothers me is all the interviewing going on of the survivors. There was one dude that was quoted as saying something to the effect that is was the most terrifying day ever as he came in to pick up his kid and he was so relieved that his son was ok.
There is no way to have any other emotion, why ask and why report it? Did anyone ever think that maybe one of the parents of the victims might read that???? Some reporter puts a camera in my face that day, I'm just going to move on and hug my kid. There is nothing to say worth saying on the scene to or by the survivors or the victims.
Disgusting tragedy perpetrated by a brain dead bastard that truly would've made the world better had his mother swallowed him 24 years ago. I sincerely hope he's rotting in hell as I type these words.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I am so sorry to hear about this tragic event guys. I have no idea what goes through these people minds. On a similar note, last year we had a spate of dads killing thier children to get back at thier wives/ex wives. Srsly, how is that even possible. Hurting children, let alone your own just goes totally against nature, I just don't get it. I just wish there was a way of making these people pay for there actions. I'm not religous but I hope there is something bad for these people when they leave this earth.

I read something on FB today that reported that of the increased shootings like this in the last 25 years.....only 4 of the shooters WEREN'T on psych drugs. I've seen a couple of kids that were zombied out on these things....I'm not convinced that this doesn't absolutely play into it. People can clamor on about firearms all they want (I am not bringing the argument into play....just using an example)....but its not like we suddenly had an influx of firearms in the US; we've had a love affair with the firearms for a long time. The change is something different....and maybe even more sinister. Its easy to say the age old mantra that people kill people....but something is different now, I wish we could find the cause or at least try to find it.
Seems like we'll forever be in a fight over the wrong issue.....all the while our people will continue to be slaughtered.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I almost mentioned the availability of guns myself but I didn't want to start that issue either. I think there is a combination of things these days melting into one to create our problems. Serious breakdowns in society happening right under our noses in the name of advancement are being used by the wrong people- people with issues. Computor games, youtube, mobile phones and ********, and even forums are playing there part. Examples- Games that encourage you to kill and maim bystanders, youtube where you can watch bad stuff happening to people from the comfort of your living room, mobile phones where kids are getting bullied in there own homes from the bullies they are trying to escape, and forums where you can openly talk with people about killing yourself or others. Its almost to easy for these people these days to become the monsters they are.
Sorry for the ramble, just some random thoughts, not trying to push my views on anyone. My training log:

You make good points here Keet. All these shooters are on psych drugs. I don't know what the percentage of school age kids on drugs is, but I'm willing to bet that it is quite high. For anyone who isn't familiar with these drugs, see this page on SSRI.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selecti...take_inhibitor
Look at the list of side effects. People dope their kids up with this stuff and it seems like every kid is ADHD these days. It's a joke. Sorry if I'm ranting but days like this irritate me. I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often considering the prevalence of these drugs on our youth.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No.19

Keet - I pulled the trigger on a new 75 lb set of ironmasters today. Last day of the online special.
I've been checking CL for a couple months now, and the only set that popped up was gone in an hour lol. So I give up.
I'm selling the 50 lb powerblocks and also the pro style set I picked up last week...should be enough to pay for the new db's.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No 7

Even if the drugs aren't the cause of these shootings...I think they're evil. I read a book earlier this year that discussed this very point. The author argued that they're overused and there is some evidence that psych drugs used on young minds permanently damages the brain.....even after they've been off of them for years.
My son is slightly ADD.....I mean SLIGHTLY....like 30 years ago he would've been considered just a kid. He has few behavioral issues, but has terrible focus issues and I'm constantly on him....which I always figured was my damn job anyway. Anyway, during the first two months of 1st grade, his teacher came to me and said he had focus issues....I said "Yea, the sky is blue too..." She suggested we have him tested and made sure to let me know there were low doses of medications I could put him on.....I refrained from throwing a desk across the room, but told her politely that was going to be out of the question. He's fine 2 years later, he continues to have focus issues....but he functions well, works hard, gets along with his friends and us....and pretty much acts like I did 30 years ago.
I refuse to fry his little mind with chemicals.....but I think we are all to quick to do it as a society.
I believe we are paying for it.....
I don't think you're going to be disappointed. I absolutely love my IM's. You can keep your eyes out for another set now....either to have 2 sets or find one that has the upgrade...or just go ahead and get the upgrade because you'll probably want it.
I don't know if you saw my posts on it, but I found that you can use 10lb pancake plates with these to form bigger dbs. You can contact IM and purchase just the screws for the 120lb set.....and with those I was able to create 150lb bells. Just some thoughts.
I have 2x 120lbs sets and I am really fortunate I was able to get them. 2 sets isn't a necessity, I was just able to luck into them....imagine that!▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I read that too- and I can believe it. One of my nephews was on ADHD meds and was a wreck. He is off now and doing much better, but still has little outbursts on occasion.
I hate the politics of this too. Every post and article I've read about this (and the mall shooting earlier this week) has said to "get rid of guns and everything will be better" or something to that affect. Then it all turns into a pissing match and I can't take reading the comments anymore. I know that gun control will be an issue forever, but seriously, give it a break at least until they get the bodies out of the school."If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." -Thomas Paine

You're a good man. When I was a kid, I was bouncing off the walls. My parents said I had a lot of energy and told me to go outside and play. If I was a kid today, the docs would want me on some drug cocktail. Ridiculous. It's nice to see you kept your kids off that crap.

I'm not trying to get anyone started on it. I think everyone knows my thoughts on firearms, but today...right now, it just doesn't matter. All the machine guns or gun bans in the world aren't bringing those children back. Its just a stupid thing to be worrying about right now when it just happened a few hours ago.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

IMO society has been brainwashed by the pharmaceutical industry to believe that medication is the answer to all ailments.
Whenever someone goes to a doctor, there is an expectation that they will be prescribed some form of medication for their complaint.
For example, how many fat people are on antihypertensive medication? Why didn't the doctor prescribe a healthy diet and exercise?
What about Type 2 diabetes? In many cases this can be reversed with diet and exercise, but we continue to prescribe glycaemic agents.
Regarding ADD or ADHD, nearly every male student in my primary school (elementary school) would have required medication by todays standards.
Instead, we were kept in check by a stern teacher, a healthy dose of the cane (if required), and the threat of being reported to your parents (who didn't tolerate insubordination).

This is a great post right here. I seriously believe these are the issues with our children.
It is very sad.
Something I always seemed to pick up on when I was riding as a paramedic.... we'd run on people that were 93yo in great shape and when we asked them what meds they took, they say "aspirin". Then we'd take a run on a 52yo that looked like they'd already been dead for 5 years and when we asked them what they took it was like getting a short version of a PDR (Physician's Desk Reference....or giant encyclopedia of medications).
Anyway....I swear these poisons kill us. I have to take pain meds sometimes for my back....but I only do it when I have to and only when I go to bed. The one that is killing me is prilosec. I have terrible heart burn and I take it daily or almost daily. If it weren't so uncomfortable and if I didn't risk eso****eal cancer...I'd say screw it and go without. I hate taking them though!
We're kind of merging two topics....I don't think mass shootings are caused from too much prilosec ..... but in general, I believe we are over medicated. The one I love is the antibiotics......if you have a cold, you don't need antibiotics...they do nothing for you. I am not getting why the docs keep prescribing them. I have a couple of friends I work with that still schedule an appointment to get antibiotics when they get a cold....I try to tell them its a waste of time and they're just wanting to get something that makes them feel better....admittedly even if its psychological.
So the psychological benefits of using antibiotics as a placebo is going to turn us all into zombies once the super bug apocalypse occurs.....fan-fing-tastic!▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪
