Im not new to weight training and have trained for a few years now.
I have concentrated on ensuring that my weight is as heavy as can to ensure growth.
The only problem is my wrists, i just get this auful pain in both my wrists, when doing upright rows today the pain was really bad in my left wrist. Then i had supported leg press ups normally do around 9 - 10 reps today only managed five on each set. What a bummer this actually affected my workout today, its not the first time its happened but i noticed how bad it was today.

You might want to have a look at buying some wrist straps, although I have been training for a while I still get the odd pain in my wrists. In particular had a really bad bout six months ago. I invested in a pair of wrist straps and for the first week wore them all the time just to act as a support for my wrists.
After that just use them in the gym and so far they seem to have sorted the problem.

wasnt leg presses it was supported leg press ups. Not prone to wrist injuries but have noticed the last couple of times i have done that workout that my wrists have been painful. My training is coming up to be changed so will mention it to my trainer too. I do side laterals on a different days workout. Dont recall any wrist pain on that day.

Your cardinal rule above is right on target. However, I would not suggest doing any wrist curls at this time due to the possiblity that this poster has a ligament tear or another injury that will be worsened by such an exercise. Acute wrist injuries can become chronic and lifelong if they are not managed appropriately and that is why it is important to consult with a specialist in hand/wrist injuries to get an a-ray and if necessary an MRI to rule out any significant injuries as well as to obtain treatment if prescribed.

X2....
Form could be the answer, can you have someone watch you or record yourself doing a row.(or something that you feel the pain)
If grabbing something tight (like the handgrips during a leg press to secure yourself) Carpultunnel syndrom could be the cause of the pain as well, a good stretching exercise outside the gym could help.
Sick your arm out in front of you palms down, then with the other hand grasp your fingers from the top and pull back slowly. Only pull on the fingers not the hand.Squat it does a body good!

jo8216, you mentioned that you had awful pain in both wrists. I am not a doctor but know from experience with my wrist problems that "awful" pain goes beyond positioning of the hands and IMHO should be checked out by a doctor who specializes in hand/wrist disorders and is beyond the scope of a trainer. Not doing so can potentially set one up from having a curable condition into a chronic one.

I had some really bad pain in my wrists too. So bad that I went and got a shot of cortisone. I wouldn't recommend the shot unless the pain is really unbearable. I bought some wrist straps and tried some neoprene grips (www.newgrips.com) that really helped my wrists alot....kind of funky at first to use...but really helped with the pain.
I would lay off the BB bench stuff....and switch to DB's....alot easier on the wrists and tendons.

thanx for the link i will check it out. Have been to the docs and they just advised me to take it easy for a week and if its no better to go back.
I took the weight down on the bench press and just increased from 3 to 4 sets. It hasnt been too bad the past few days so hopefully im doing something right.
Cheers Jo"Success in anything that seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving.
