for equal amounts of time, jogging.

Its easy to not push yourself on a bike. but its also low/no impact.

I have ankle problems, so I prefer bike. When I do bike, I tend to push myself really hard, like going constantly around 100 RPMs , or doing somethingm more HITT style and alternating minutes between 90RPMs and 120RPMs. My quads are pretty much burning the entire time. One positive thing I noticed about bike is that you can go more distance in the same amount of time, so I wondered if that was a positive in terms of putting greater work in.

Wieder Fitness suggests cycling for cardio because jogging too often can place unecessary stress on the ankles. I might not care about this except for the fact that my ankles pronate and jogging something link 5-6 MPH for 15 minutes makes my ankles start hurting pretty badly and I have to stop.

I'd say it depends which one you enjoy more and therefore will put more effort into.

I prefer cycling for longer cardio sessions because it is low impact. For shorter, more interval oriented cardio I prefer running. Since I cycle 22km each way to work 5 days a week it also is a very convenient way to get cardio in. It takes about 15 min longer each was than driving and I get about 90 minutes of cardio.

Swimming is an excellent all around conditioning exercise but an inferior form of cardiovascular exercise imo. Much easier to get to and keep the heart rate in a perfect zone from running than swimming.

I enjoy both swimming and running but for different reasons.

What type of physique do you prefer?

    Cyclist or a Sprinter...??

If you're ankles hurt while running you may have to adjust your gate pattern or get new shoes or both. Run on a treadmill too, not concrete.

Strictly for cardio? I don't know that either is actually better. The one that you'll stick to probably. Your goals may impact what form better suits what you want or need to do, but you can definitely be effective from a cardiovascular standpoint with either.
