Well, accidents and deaths down in a rising population is usually a step ahead. And as a per-capita measure, it's not the worst thing I have to watch for during my day.

Yes. It is a step in the right direction.

But it isn't nearly enough, because that's still a LOT of totally senseless, preventable deaths.

If increasing the penalties put you a step ahead, would further increasing the penalties put you another step ahead?

Because if what has been done is a step ahead, that's good, but you're still about 10 steps from the finish line

Re. Guns. They are too accessible to kids, if you have guns, they need to be locked up to keep imbeciles like the one that killed the kids gaining access to them. His mother was a fukn idiot, but nobody would say anything about it for fear of reprisals. If I'd have seen that playing out, I'd have damn well said something about it. ALL, not some, but ALL of my guns are locked away in a safe. I wouldn't want to think about what would happen if what I owned fell into the wrong hands. Putting armed guards AND metal detectors on the entrances to all schools is another thing that I would like to see.

I finally saw The Amazing Spiderman. It was alright, but I hated the actor who portrayed Spiderman. It looks like they took that actor from Breaking Bad, removed his cerebral palsy, and made him more annoying. Emma Stone was of course great. The Lizard sucked. I do not look forward to the sequels.

If we made all alcohol illegal and banned motor vehicle use to only the 50+ category, I bet we could drastically reduce the amount of DUI accidents and deaths per year.

lolshack, what did you think of the other Spider Man trilogy?

    All 3 sucked.

The new one was far more accurate to its comic origins than the trilogy.

I agree it was more entertaining back then and it was around the early-mid 80s when I started watching it. These days technology and Lance Armstrong-like fitness levels have sucked a lot of that entertainment out of it. Also the US and Australia are no longer the force in tennis they once were.

Of the current generation I suspect only Federer would have had any success with smaller wooden rackets and gut strings vs. the massive graphite-tungsten frames with synthetic strings used by today's players which allow them to hit clean winners on the run from 10ft+ behind the baseline.

    1. That imbecile was 20 years old. He was not a "kid".

    2. If you want to lock ALL of your guns away in a safe, that's your choice and you are free to do so. I haven't seen enough information to come to a conclusion about whether or not his mother was an idiot, but the fact that he apparently had to kill her to get the guns indicates to me that maybe she was doing all she could to keep him out of them. And remember, he was a 20 year old male, and a genius. It's going to be pretty hard to keep a 20 year old genius from getting his hands on guns. The issue here is the mental health angle, and the fact that there were no controls, no safeguards, no intervening actions, etc, to keep him from acting. It does seem like the signs were there.

    3. Armed guards and metal detectors, plus EVERY person entering having to go through them EVERY time, is the ONLY way to properly call anything a "gun free" zone. If that's what we want to do, that's how we need to do it. Absolutely.

There is hardly anything to that article, just off hand references to very old (1970s and 1980s) studies that are not even specifically named, let alone cited or linked. The only link that went to a 'study' didn't have the whole study, just the little synopsis...and it was about binge drinking, not DUI.

I too am glad that her mother's gun does not scare her, and that she knows how to safely and effectively handle it.

And I am glad that she had access to it, and that it made her safer when confronted (eerr, I'll call it confronted, not sure on best term here) by a man/intruder in her home.

Yes, the info was vague. As I'm out of town at the moment, I don't have the time or resources to dig for relevant data.

    Answer me this:

Do you think that the number of alcohol-related deaths would not increase if the drinking age was lowered to 18?

Do you think that the number of alcohol-related deaths would not increase if the drinking age was lowered to 18?
I don't know. I could see it going either way, for a variety of reasons.

However, when coupled with my proposed initiative to really hammer people for DUI, even on the first offense, I believe the number of alcohol-related deaths would absolutely be lowered.

And I think the culture of alcohol abuse in young adults would slightly improve/mature. Slightly, but I believe it would.

The DUI have been speaking of is more than just drunk, of course. THC would have a legal minimum as well, and would be treated the same. It isn't just drunk driving

Crashing alot? Or just don't like the experience?

I have 8 on my laptop. The Start screen is just a full-screen Start Menu. I find myself using the Windows key much more in 8 than in 7. I use the desktop "mode" much more than the Modern UI. To get to the control panel is abit convoluted.

But, in terms of stability and speed, 8 has been much better than 7. Then again, 7 is still a dream compared to Vista (anything's better than Vista).

I've had to do it twice at work. (Small repair shop)

It seems the customers aren't too fond of the Start Menu.

Finding drivers is the part that sucks.
