There are many types of concrete cleaner. You probably want the one that's phosphoric acid. You might also see the phosphoric acid in the painting section as it's used to prep metal surfaces before painting. You could also naval jelly found in auto parts stores.

I have a orbital sander I used to strip my power rack....and I still have some mineral oil. I really have no intentions of repainting the bar a different color, just want to knock off the rust.

You're right. When I posted earlier, I didn't have time or the ability to give a greater detail and some of the information I was thinking of is on IH, not Keetman's barbell thread. The roll pins used to hold the sleeves ends on the York barbells have been known to bend or break. One on my latest 1980's York Oly bar was broken when I received it. The pins can be replaced, but if you get it broken off inside the bar, and it sticks, you could have problems.
Some thoughts on refinishing York bars. Some bars were given a black (similar to gun blue) coating back in the day. You may want to retain some of that finish and if you are too persistent with the wire wheel or the chemicals, you will remove that finish. When you remove the sleeves from the bar you will see brass bushings. They can be removed, but it is not worth removing them in most cases. Clean out the crap and then lubricate the bar with white lithium grease. You'll be good to go.You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Well, it's that simple, but there's about two weeks worth of wait between wiping it on and wiping it off (for rusty plates). Usually washing it off helps, a light scrub with a brush easily takes off any rust that isn't quite gone. Some people use a baking soda & water solution to neutralize the acid, but I've never bothered with that.

My 3 year old daughter now has her own York dumbell set. She can allready do overhead presses and one arm rows better that most grown men and women. She is an amazing little girl ....

I used York barbells ever since I was a little kid. They were my fathers weights that he must have had for a long time - might have even been used by my grandfather.
Solid weights for sure. No frills. They've began to rust a bit since they've been neglected in my basement. I was thinking of buying a new bench since that one is old and dirty but I bet I could clean it up and be perfectly happy with it. I might have to do that.
I loved that bench. I should've used it more often. I just never had lifting gloves and I hated gripping the dirty metal bar. I never thought of getting weight lifting gloves or even asking my parents though.

Hard to say without looking at it. The handle actually extends into the heads, so if it were a replacement, I would be concerned that the handle didn't have sufficient "grip" on the heads.

The full set is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. No 11. Roundheads start back up at 15 and go to 100 in 5-pound increments.
4s, 6s, and 9s are the hardest to find. 2s are relatively easy to find. I had to pay $100 to get my pair of 9s. With the 4s and 6s I got lucky.You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?
