finance is limitless. but its saturated and comptetitive.

nursing has a salary cap. not as prestigous. however gauranteed salary and job.

i know many nurses maing 80k a year with amazing benefits.

i'm currently in nursing school. i'm surrounded by tons of women. which is nice...being one of only few guys you stand out as a student and candidate, which is nice.

surprised no one has mentioned becoming a Physician Assistant. More autonomy and decision-making ability than a murse, better job opportunities in some areas, more career flexibilty, and higher salary potential. Im considering it myself.

First year associates at firms like goldmansacs, UBS, JPMorgan tyipcally get $90k/year + bonus, but except to work minimum 65 hours/week if you can even get a job there, since you'll be dealing with lots of competition.

I'm doing nursing since I screwed up my grades when I first started college and I go to a tier 3 college. Also whether you have an associates or bachelors you get paid the same. My sister is a RN at a hospital and makes $70k/year working 3x 12hr shifts, they also get a 3% raise per year.

If you can land a job at a IB, you could probably make it through nursing Anesthesiology school and make $150k+/year, so I would say both careers your salary will depend on the amount of work you put in.

    job is easy as hell

90% of exams are less than 5 pictures, almost everybody is digital now so there is no dark room/processing, the pictures show right up on the computer

i get the patient, take a few pictures, and tell them to GTFO

What do you think about Radiation Therapy? I'm in my third, out of four, semesters. Only 9 kids in my program now. 2 got kicked out and 1 dropped.

People keep telling me the market is horrible for us but IDK, we'll see. Have you ever considered being a traveling tech?

what spec? I'll be graduating in 2 years. right now I'm feeling neonatal intensive care.

pick finance if you want a job you can leave at work. Nursing follows you home. Sometimes you will find yourself thinking of your patients. Nursing can be draining and requires a lot of personal care and attention to avoid burnout. like ^he said, you have to WANT to do it otherwise you will burnout fast, be a horrible nurse and hate your job and hate your life.

Yeah I'm hoping of becoming a traveling therapist. I'd work around the area for a year or so to get money lined up and then go but then I hear of therapists who said they always wanted to travel but lost motivation after working for a while so IDK. He's lucky to have a job lined up, in NY its not like that We still make bank though.

Do what you are passionate about. You will make the most by doing what you are good at.

Where you go doesn't matter as much as who you know. Do internships and make connections. That's what gets people jobs.

lol @ making fun of male nurses. Hospitals really love employing male nurses because they can (generally speaking) handle the heavy lifting more than the women can. And men can bring a unique perspective to the health industry.

But like some one mentioned...nursing has to be in your nature. You gotta love people and have a great deal of care and empathy for them. And some one mentioned that as a nurse, you get stuck as being a nurse. There are LOTS of different branches of nursing lol.

This thread got me thinking of going back to school to get a Finance degree.. I have a degree in Marketing but I cant even land a job more than 30k or anything that doesn't suck. I probably could get it done part time in like 2 years because a lot of my courses from marketing would carry over.

Isn't college an investment on which you expect a return to pay back the investment.

I chose Nursing because I have an interest in it. Finance just sounded like a way to make money.
i wasnt really saying its "wrong" .. just saying that there are plenty of jobs out there which pay extremely well, and becoming an RN is definately no easy task (i assume finance is hard also) and im pretty sure i would lose motivation if money is all that kept me going. with that being said, chances are you will not be rich as an RN. above average? yes, you'll never go without and have great benefits, but you'll earn them.
