    Squats
    1- 135 X 12

dumbbell fly: 5 sets of 10

All I know is the squats may not be super heavy but they test your will when you are doing 15+ sets.

I know that if you put me in the squat rack and someone else and you told us go til someone quits, I would be the last one coming out.

the 5 sets of 2 is that 95% of your best single squat-wise?

reason i ask is an old school power lifter had me DL 435 for 5 sets of 2 when (at the time) my max was 455. EXTREMELY tough workout. Much tougher than it sounds ha. Nice job

    Thumbs up

That's a crazy amount of sets! Reminds me of Kurt Angle, when he talks about doing an insane amount of sets/reps of squats in his book.

i am doing sheiko russian squat routine. It is 80% of my 1 RM (about 555-565) but sheiko is a lot of volume at submaximal weights and you squat 2x/week with deadlifts in between that. Probably the single most hellacious squat workout was during smolov when I did a total of 12 sets of squats but 4 of those sets were with 490 for 5 reps. Absolutely god awful brutal. That was at the end of a 9 week squat cycle where I was squatting 3-4x/week.

Do you plan on going back to a more bodybuilding oriented routine such as your PHAT training anytime soon?

x2... I know your a fan of hitting all different rep schemes not just one, but do you feel such time away from "hypertrophy oriented" training can be harmful to your bodybuilding goals?

Hey Layne, seeing as you posted the livestrong commercial up there I thought Id share a story that I really think youll appreciate. This is what I thought of right before the first time i ever benched 315. My dad is an Emergency Room Nurse and he took care of a patient who was previously was a perfectly healthy 2 year old boy, absolutely no health problems. One afternoon he fell into their ingrround pool and now has to live his life in a wheelchair, basically a vegetable. It really puts things into perspective and its what I think of when prep and life in general gets hard, were lucky to be able to put ourselves through what we do.

Yeah I'll give another example it's myself I was in a wreck back in November, dislocated my knee and tore 3/4 ligaments, and I've been trying to work hard to get quad strength back. It's hella hard getting strength back in quads after a major knee injury like that, but it's just pushing me even harder to get past any previous lifts I was at and make sure I'm not very vulnerable to injury ever again.

pretty sure all the studies showing negative effects from training were done on endurance athletes during 60min+ long training bouts...not guys hitting reps and sets and taking rest time etc
