    16 Year Old Girl Looking For Weight-Loss Program

    I told my girlfriend I would find her a program/guidelines/foods that would help her lose a little bit of weight and pursue a healthy lifestyle. Can anyone help me design a nutritional program/design one for me? Or point me in the direction of a great nutritional program/foods that she could eat? Thanks a lot, guys!

    I would also just hang around the nutrition forum itself and read as much as you can for the next few weeks. There is a lot of info to be learned. A good tip also is when you go shopping at the grocery store, is to shop around the perimeter of the store. That is where all the good stuff is at like meats, fruits, vegetables etc. All the processed stuff is in the center of the store.

    I would click on the Nutrition Forum: The Best Of Threads.. sticky in this forum. You will learn a lot in there.

    Well, have you seen all those banners on websites and such? Follow these easy steps and you'll lose weight and be in the best shape of your life? Thankfully, there are such easy tips.

    1) Eat fewer calories than you use.
    2) Eat healthy foods.
    3) Exercise.

    Weight loss is really that simple. It's just a matter of motivation, if you're dedicated, losing weight is easy. If you're not, it just won't happen. As for specifics, running and swimming are wonderful things. She should get in the habit of doing those 3+ times a week. Eat lots of healthy foods. Vegetables, whole grains, lean meat (chicken and fish are great). She'll be in good shape in no time, not to mention feel better.

    If she really wants to be serious about it, tell her to start counting calories. That's really the best way to be certain of weight loss. For example, start with 2000 calories a day for a few weeks, if you don't lose weight, decrease it, repeat until you are losing weight. Simple as that.

    Well, as long as we're talking about simplicity: you can cut out points 2 and 3 and get pretty much the same results. Eat less than you burn, and you will lose weight.

    Of course, most people want to actually look and feel better in addition to watching the number on the scale go down - in which case, we can throw points 2 and 3 back in there. But for purely weight loss purposes, eating at a deficit is all you need. (Sorry to be a nitpicking jerk...I have self-diagnosed OCD. Hah.)

    Haha, point taken. I thought about just leaving it with the first one... but then my own personal bias kicked in, which is that people who are happy being thin but unhealthy really aggravate me... if you want to look like you have a healthy body, then HAVE A HEALTHY BODY.

    Dunno if that's trolling or not... I just went on a 1600 calories cut where I was eating an apple and a banana everyday...

    Anyway counting calories and going high on fibers/protein is the best advice I can give.
