Well, primarily, I think the shroud was actually a burial shroud for Jacques de Molay. Ancient Hebrews used a mummy-style wrapping, not the small strips, but still horizontal wrapping with a wider cloth...so the shroud is immaterial.

You can "what if" any topic. What if the moon were made of cheese? What if the atom isn't the smallest particle (as they thought ~100 years ago).

Religion is a matter of faith.

    Happy Easter, everyone.

I think it is a shame we stopped teaching religion in schools. De Wesselow may be an expert on art, art history and related topics. He is rather ignorant of Christian theology if he is claiming the resurrection story was invented in the 14th century. But, whole religions are forged on the idea that a Bible written in English is the literal word of God.

I think that the oldest NewTestamant fragments where Jesus ressurection is recorded are a lot older than the shroud. Jesus ressurection was believed in long before the shroud came along (the shroud has nothing to do with Jesus).

    Complete poppycock!

It is the shroud of Jacques De Molay, leader of the Knights Templar.
It has been carbon dated and found to be in existance way after Jesus was.

The Knights were rumored to have the Grail, they didn't want to give it to the king of England so the king got all pissy and banned them...
    on Friday the 13th.
The Knights were the heroes of the common folk and protected them, this is why Friday the 13th is considered unlucky.

So Jacques knew what was gonna go down and sent his Templars to Scotland to hide the Grail and protect his men.
They did a little more than that but you're going to have to sift through a bunch of history b.s to get to the truth.

Many men at the time wore their facial hair like Christ...shaving's expensive back then brah.
So the king decided to off Jacques much the same way Christ was killed.
And he kept the body in a room wrapped in a shroud until it was claimed.

That shroud is the Shroud of Turin.

These are some of the things I can tell you as a Freemason that won't get me killed. srs

Ya know my friend, I want at least a part of me does to debate you to ? and to What End ?, will it change my mind, NOT ON YOUR LIFE, my faith is grounded in Belief in a one and true God & even those times that are fewer and far between, my Faith sometimes small even miniscule "mustard seed" & I lose my way in other words, It always comes back to the one thing that gives me solace, the Bible and Gods word even when I FAIL miserably at being a decent person, I enjoy cutting sarcasm and self righteous indignation can be my guide if I allow and DO a great deal, to my detriment, but i lend no credence in particular blowhard driven diatribe from MSLSD, not inferring that you follow it in a excuse the expression Biblical zeal, but if you would care to discuss in a civil manner even debate perhaps even heated about the veracity of the Bible in comparison to oh ANYTHING I would be more than happy to talk to you-----Nevertheless the Great Commission is to share the Word of the Gospel whenever and wherever I can, inspite of the slings and arrows that come my way, So my Prayer like it or not for you is to have a Beautiful Easter and remember it aint about the Bunny

A most blessed Easter to everyone. And if it's nothing more than kids hunting for eggs in the Spring grass, then may they be the cutest and most adorable in their endeavors! Ha ha No thumb in anyone's eye here. Spring is a time of rebirth. It always has been, always will be! ...And truth, well, it's never depended on how many accepted, believed, or followed. It's one of those things that just 'stands alone.'

I'm torn. Growing up in a very religious household my mind wars with my heart all the time. I went to christian school and secular college. It turns me off when I hear christians insist the world is 4000 years old, our how they judge evolution as a work of the devil. I converted to catholicism after getting married. I do like to think about religion and philosophy. I like history and will often chew on topics like, what if the cathars had won?
