They need to arm all teachers and have them take a weapons course 2x a year. They should have a box in each classroom with the goods in it that only opens by finger print. Then put a cop at each school every day.
Next time this happens (there will be a next) the sick bastard will get taken down fast.

I disagree with 'arm all teachers'
But what they should do is get rid of "gun free zones" that are not physically controlled access (making schools legal for carry) and not allow the school system/government to make rules against guns (public schools) so that any teacher who wants to carry there, can.
I think TWO armed peace officers should be stationed at most schools during regular school hours

Teachers already do a nurse's job, and now they should be bodyguards as well? No way, Hose. Just place armed guards, one at each school. I'm sure the parents wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks to ensure their babies don't get killed by some sick bastard.

They have to get creative. Neighborhoods/areas have a very small number of street names that get repeated over and over, they run out of suffixes, I swear.
It doesn't make any sense at all.
And here's another head scratcher:
You approach a 4 way intersection. There is a stoplight. The light is green. You are turning right. The person coming at you is turning left. You do NOT have the right of way, because back there behind you there was a Yield sign, and what it means is that even though you are turning right on a green light, the person turning left has the right of way. However, if you were to go straight (through that green light) you would have the right of way.
wut?

Yes now that I think about it, not every teacher should be armed. There are too many people in general that can't handle firearms correctly. But they should encourage teachers to take courses then filter out the people who can't do it. Thus keeping the ones who can carry and able to defend the students/faculty. Obviously properly train the armed teachers multiple times a year and have them take tests, etc.
Agree with the two cops. Plus metal detectors. Don't bring the TSA into it...Make it similar, but more mild. I also think having each student go through a yearly psychiatric evaluation would be beneficial. We have a lot to do however as far as "mental health" is concerned in this country, we're in the dark ages when it comes to that.
@ Shoe: Sorry to hear that man. Hope you feel better. You ever wanna talk my pm box is always open no homo.

I don't think the metal detectors are a good idea*. They would be a HUGE bottleneck. They would have to be manned, and every single person would have to go through them. And the ones who are legally carrying would have to show their ID, and it would have to be checked...it would be a HUGE PITA and probably cost a helluva lot more. I'd just have it as it is, but remove the restrictions on law abiding citizens (anybody licensed to carry, or anybody who qualifies to carry in states that don't require licenses) can legally carry to the school just like they can to everywhere else. And a couple of armed, sworn peace officers stationed there during school hours.
*At least not on an every school basis.
I'm sure they would be a good idea, and worth the hassle and cost, in some locaitons...ough *"inner city"* cough
