    Tattoos on bodybuilders?

I was curious to hear what everyone thinks about tattoos on bodybuilders. I like tats for the art but imo they are a distraction to the physique of a bodybuilder...but that's just me.

I agree. Unfortunately I got my tats prior to me getting into more serious lifting. If I could do it over again, I wouldn't have gotten them. They obscure definition and definitely are a distraction.

On what body part did you get your tats?

Would a shoulder tattoo generally make the shoulder look bigger or smaller?

Most pro's do not have tattoo's. Many amatuers do not have them either so I think your percentage is a little off. There is also stage make-up that does a pretty good job of covering it up.

I have a shoulder tat and he takes away from definition quite a bit, check my avatar. Doesn't help that i'm extremely pale so it makes it even worse. If i was tanned some, you wouldn't notice the difference in definition much.

What if the shoulder tat was more rounded to compliment the shoulder? Lee Priest pulls it off quite well i think:

On the sides of both upper arms. I don't believe a tattoo would make a particular body part look larger or smaller, but it definitely obscures definition and vascularity.

Depends where they are/how big. Some are practically invisible once the tan's on but some are still highly visible, and worse still, quite distracting.

Often tends to be due to too light a tan-having said that I was at an amatuer contest yesterday and one guy had a tat that extended from the bottom of his neck and covered his shoulder and arm and was still visible despite the tan. From where we were sat it looked like he had some sort of bizarre ridged skin disease, pretty distracting from his physique IMO.

I think that they should just say, “Hey, if you guys don’t talk, you have to see Hercules In New York.” I guarantee those guys would talk much faster. You don’t need to do waterboarding or anything else. That’s the ultimate threat.''

You'll find more amatuers that have them then pro's. I think in the next couple of years we are going to be seeing alot more tats on pro's as these guys come up. Alot of the shows I have gone to the lower level bbers have tats. They cover up ok, but are still noticable if your looking for them.

The guy on the left has a few tats on him, left arm right arm and middle back. The guy on the right has a full sleeve on his right arm, across his sleeve, then covers his left. They were really noticable from where I was sitting about 20 ft from the stage.

I would say they are pretty noticable.

I personally don't like them but its your body, you do what you want with it. And a poster above made a good point, with all the protan you can barely see the tats anyways.

You can see the size of the arm, a little development, but conditioning?? If you've got enough size, then I'd just be worried about it blurring the rest of the equation.(which is quite a bit being judged on stage)

I regret having mine also due to the fact for jobs. Especially fitness jobs. Doing videos, or modeling or something. Most of those guys don't have tattoos. Most covers of bbing mags = guys without tats.

    tattoos in bodybuilding

Hi, what is the best makeup to cover tats? I have a full arm sleeve and my kids feet prints on my upper back and I am getting ready to do my first figure competition. I am experimenting with covering them. If I would have known I would be getting into this sport, I would have never gotten them.

They are acceptable to a certain extent. I have seen photos, like the ones earlier in the thread, where they detract from the overall package a bodybuilder is presenting. However, I have seen photos where they are hardly noticeable, if at all.

Not a fan of Tattoo's either, but appreciate creative/interesting ones on other people without a doubt!

I have a tat on my arm that I wish I never got. When I was 17 I was the baddest kid there was with it. Nowdays, shyt, I might as well have barbed wire and a wolf on my shoulder with how lame I feel.
