I don't dig them either, but I do them.

Yup. If you don't make sacrifices, work hard and go through thousands of uncomfortable moments that you don't "dig", what can you achieve in bodybuilding exactly?
^^^ That's important. How are you going to know you're gonna dig any thigh work? Do what you want, but compromise based on enjoyment factor and you'll compromise results too.
This is as gay as hell, but before each set of squats (when I did 'em, I do fronts now and for some reason I don't say it) I psyched up with the words "suck it up, buttercup" repeated again and again to myself.
I never psych up on anything else beyond gathering my mental focus. But I was just telling myself exactly what I needed to do.Last edited by Duckenheimer; 03-15-2008 at 05:47 PM.

If you don't want to do the squat, or any variation of the squat (bad move in my humble opinion), but you still want a full body "core muscle" exercise, then the deadlift is the best answer. If, however, you're looking for an exercise that primarily works the quads, then the leg press is decent, as are lunges.

If you don't have a good reason for not doing them, suck it up and just do them.
They are not required, but they will definitely help speed your overall development.
There is NO exercise that will mimick squats.
You can do other things to try and develop your lower body and core. Some have already been mentioned:
Leg Press
Hack Squats
Lunges
Step Ups
etc....

what's wrong w/ leg press?
although, I doubt if you can't commit to squats, which in my opinion are easier to get a good workout than w/ the leg press, that leg press will not do you a damned bit of good.Rice Power Log
