damn, thats alot of weight gained already.... are you sure you wanna gain all that weight because its really not good for you. You should shot for being at least above 250 in weight to go d1 and be very talented at that. wouldnt it be easier to maintain the weight that your at and play LB?

I'd recommend eating ALOT more, maybe buy some weight gain product. Lift More, you have awhole year and even if you dont get scouted i think you can walk-on im not sure. But just eat, lift, and sleep. you should shoot for like 270.. notre dames linemen are all in the high 200's and low 300's.

Agreed, its much better not to recommend a position change on forums when you haven't seen him play. Try to gain as much weight and still be athletic from now until season. Fight through and lift hard during season to maintain/gain strenth and weight. Then just Try to gain as much weight as you can agin and if you gain another 35lbs you could be a decent size for d2 then maybe redshirt which will give you even more time to get bigger.

The linemen i know are all about 300, the lightest being about 270. Strength wise they a lot stronger too. For D1 football I doubt OL would be a possibility. Don't really mean to rain on your parade, sorry.

id say at least 270 plus for interior line. if you aint up for eating 500 cals+ a day next off season id say to give fullback a try. a conversion to linebacker would be tough. fullback wouldn't be to bad

you are way too small and even if you gain that much weight, your strength is not that great...and you won't be able to raise it as fast as your weight resulting in a slower body etc. Gain another 15 lbs and go for linebacker.
    NEW GOAL(s):
    Regain my strength.
Put on 5 lbs of muscle.
Gain better overall fitness (strength, endurance, muscle)

3 friends of mine all got Oline scholarships to APP State (D1AA Nat'l Champs twice in a row). One was 6'2 220 his junior year. Another 6'4 245 jr year and the third 6'2 250 his jr and sr year.

some school don't care as much about size as they do getting semibig athletic lineman (like my 3 teamates) who are fast. If they are fast and smaller the colleges know they can add weight to them and then have big fast lineman.

Its harder to make a big lineman fast than it is to make a fast lineman big

you can do it. don't listen to the haters^^^

LOL @ people thinking you can just throw people at different spots based off weight. Its not like the video games guys. You could make it at OL at D2 if you are good. You'll just need 2-3 years to get your size and strength up. Especially strength.

You really think he is capable of gaining 50-80 pounds in the next year? If he is a D1 caliber athlete than switching from line to linebacker shouldnt be a problem. D1 athletes should be able to move around because they are athletes, not just position players

He's never going to play D1 unless he's a mega athlete, and if he was he wouldn't be asking about D2. At D2 it wouldn't be hard to be a smaller lineman, and he'd have 2-3 years to get ready. FB in some systems would be an option, in some it wouldn't. LB would not be an option unless he's really got an instinct for it. Tons of D2 players end up 270 and start, and adding 50 lbs this year and next year(redshirt) wouldn't be too tall of a task.

This may help with a little perspective.

I played D-Line on a DivIII national Championship team in the 90's.

    I was 6'3 285lbs

    Benched 350
    Squated 580
    and ran a 4.8 40

I had some offers to go DivII and a couple for DIVI, but not to any schools I wanted to go to.

If you want to play in college focus on what you can do and let the chips fall where they may, honestly if it's your senior year its really to late to do much to your size. At 6,2 you are never going to be a giant, but that doesn't mean you can't compete. The other thing to remember is that if you don't have schools looking already you will need to be all state to get them to look.

I played DIII because I liked the school and team. I loved everyminute of it and have a cool ring and bad ankles to show for it. I have several friends that played DI and didn't have the greatest experiance. In our 30's since none of us made it pro we are all office dwellers all we have know are the memories.

Good luck and I hope you can make it!

    im a college football lineman.

if you gained 35 lbs from last year i am SURE you wont be able to do it again. and if you did it again, you'd be gaining bad weight. you dont want to be 255 and looking really fat and flabby. the lightest lineman D1 schools will usually recruited is about 255. once you get down to D2 and D3 they will pick up some guys at about 240 if they are really athletic.

i think you'd have a better chance trying DLine. Dlineman can be smaller but usually are considered more athletic and faster so its ok to be smaller.

just my thoughts. i play against guys 320+

EDIT: and sorry to say. nobody with the choice to play DI or DII where you get scholarships (maybe it was a walkon opportunity) chooses to go DIII. its simple as that. not trying to be a dick but just being realistic

Actually you would be surprised. My choices at the time ( at least the most serious ) were North Dakota for DII as a full ride or Arizona State as a walkon first year ride if I made it. Honestly I should have jumped on North Dakota but I was dumb at the time. On my team we had a quarterback from the University of Wisconsin that gave up his ride, we had a D-Lineman from Northwestern that got kicked off the team and we had 2 guys that had rides to DII schools that chose not to go.

We also lost 2 to Iowa State after a year.

Now you are right if Michigan or Wisconsin or Florida would have called I would have jumped on it, but Its not like I had them beating down the door.

We have an OG who weighs 215 after gaining like 40 lbs in the off-season. Unless he gets hurt he will be able to get a scholly from Chadron State, a top D2 school. They aren't moving him.

215 OG with a ride.......thats impressive. A lot of it depends on potential also. I had a friend that went to badgers at 240lbs as an O-lineman, but he was 6'6 so they new they could pack weight on him.

i think dline would be the best option for you.

i'm not knockin your or anything big guy but at my school we have 2 or 3 sophmore OL benching about 280(Varsity too) and squat about the same and there atleast 20lbs more than you though but the more that you weight the more agility you will loose if you dont work on your agility and speed and ect but if you do it will be hard for you to gain that weight. but if you plan on playin D1 you gonna have to be kinda heavy and extremly athletic like pulling and getin out in front of your tailback.
