I don't look at the distant future, i just know my last work out and today i'm going to beat that by working harder.
Each day a progressive outcome, working harder, getting bigger and stronger and it's showing.
If only i could have this mindset in everything else in my life besides lifting weights.

Kind of ironic mentioning Flex Wheeler in a thread about natural bodybuilding plateaus, but before the 99 Olympia he said some interesting things.

Observational cliffs + some own thoughts: (posted video for 0.08-0.58)
    - Self belief is key. With the self belief in your own ability to progress and work really hard combined with consistency you can reach your goals.
    - One goal at a time, put your energy into that and focus on what you have to do to achieve it. Then onto the next one.
    - The control you have is your physique and how you look, through your own self discipline.
    - Reaching your goals are a competition with yourself, whatever anybody else brings to the stage is irrelevant as you can't control that. Sure you can use other people as motivation but it's a fight against your own self-will.
    - You've got to realise anything worth having in your life is not always easy, you've got to put in the work for it. It'll take you on a journey and you'll reach your goals and learn a lot about yourself and how far you can push yourself in the process.
    - Get out and do it, there are only so many tomorrows.

Watching my cardiovascular and physical endurance improve during my daily life (E.G. helping people by carrying equipment) has also provided a huge boost to my motivation. I try to think positive at all times (still a beginner, bound to hit rocky points some time during the journey).

I never realised either until he spoke about his 2nd place in 99 after placing 2nd in 98. He said the reason he shook his head and took his medal off after receiving 2nd to Coleman in 99 was because he felt like a champion for putting his best effort into something and wasn't going to let a medal declare he wasn't good enough to the best prize as he felt like a winner that night regardless.

when your in the gym focus on what your doing , pay attention to detail . dont just get on a machine and start pushing weight . make sure the seat height is set up for your body type .

focus on why your there. you shouldnt be thinking about what your going to do this weekend , about work , about bills , etc.etc. shut off everything else that is going on in your life. focus is the key word

I know this is a bit of an unusual one. Somebody once asked if you were your child self, what would you say to you at your current age? I'd want to be proud of who I'd become. On the other end of the spectrum, imagine yourself when you're much much older. Ask yourself if you were happy with everything you've done in life? The bottom line is live for the moment. Be sensible and plan things for sure, be careful with money but enjoy your life because it could be taken away from you within a few days or a month. Always take up social invites and meet people. Never regret anything you've done because it's taught you something good or bad and it's made you who you are today. Regret is wasted energy.

so you say your a " hardgainer " i beleive that this is just a excuse . be honest with yourself . are you doing everything that is neccasary to make progress ? are you eating enough protein everyday ? are you getting all of your meals in every day ? or every so often you skip a few meals ? when you leave the gym can you honestly say you did all you had to do to help promote muscle growth ? be honest with yourself . dont just say ? oh well ? it's not working i guess im a "hardgainer "

of course all of us will hit a plateau sooner or later , but there are ways to beat that too . just dont ever give up . you can always be better

Right now, my focus level is as high as its ever been. I train not only for Bodybuilding, but also endurance and strength. Each of these are difficult enough, but balancing them out is even harder. The goal here is high-level fitness.

    Hey havok77,

I agree, natural bodybuilding is a slow process. Plateaus will haunt all of us for the rest of our lives. Something we have to live with. In terms of that, what is my mind set? Kind of a philosophical one. My mindset is, bodybuilding is a process, not a destination. Therefore I've learned to love the process of working out. I think most people who quit working out or stop don't like the feeling it gives them. To me I feel alive.

Also my mindset is a outwork philosophy. My mindset in the gym is everything I do in the gym will be reflected outside the gym. If I quit easily in the gym, what does that say about my character outside the gym. All of the problems I've came across in the gym are outside the gym as well.

good post , alot of people dont think of it that way . they simply just think of "lifting weights" it's so much more then that . anyone can lift a weight , but to go in there and fully apply yourself , think about what your doing , realy focusing on every rep . recently i had a guy at the gym say "hey man put some weight on that bar " i quickly explained to him that the weight is important but form is also important . it was one of my early sets and i was just realy focusing on realy feeling the muscle . i was doing hammer rows with only a 45 and 25 on each side. i got 20 reps. i bet i got more out of that set then the guy doing 5 plates screaming and yelling and moving the weight 2 inches .
this is all up to you , great power lies in your hand's .

My mindset is to keep trying and keep pushing. Its taken a long time to get to that simple realization. I have missed workouts, skipped weeks, injured myself with bad form, eaten too much, drank too much, failed sets by 1 rep or more, and I would beat on myself like a punching bag. But I keep going back to the gym on my next work out and trying again. As long as I keep working at it, I will reach my goal. My failures are bothering me less and less, and now I am focusing on moving forward even if its the wrong way because I have found its better to fail moving forward than not moving at all.

I haven't hit a wall yet, but I haven't been working out too long and I switcb up routines every couple months. Don't get frustrated. Go into hitting a wall with a mindful eye and ask questions like you are doing here. Tons of people have hit the wall like you. Learn from them and keep moving forward!

Thanks HAvok and Leroylavey, some great posts here! The mind is so powerful, and you are capable of much more than you think. I am a fairly motivated person most of the time, but I am sure inspired by some of the comments I read on the forums, not to mention the links and videos. Sometimes you can't really see the progress and that can be disheartening, it just takes time, and you have to be patient. In the end persistence pays off.

Break through those barriers- No excuses! Good luck all.
