Is it normal to pee a lot when you drink a lot of water?

I know that seems like a stupid question.

Basically since i've started my journey, I have been drinking water and water only, with the occasional crystal light flavoring. I've noticed when I have 4+ water bottles a day, I start to pee A LOT, and the urine is usually very clear, just a very very slight yellow hue.

The water goes through me so fast it's crazy, and seems like a waster, since as soon as I gulp it down, 30 minutes later, I piss it all out.

So what's the point of drinking all that water if I am just going to piss it all out?

Yes, this is normal because over time your body gets used to having a constant supply of water so taking in water constantly minimizes the likelyhood that your body will retain water. This is a good thing, kind of inconvenient at times, but it's good.

Ok thanks. It's definitely annoying, but if it's a good thing then so be it.

Feel Lucky that you can do that. Some folks drink a lot of water and it stays there. Then at night they visit the toilet 5, 6 or more times. Fast processing means your healthy.

It is a very good thing actually. You flush out waste sooner, hydrate you body better, and keep water weight down.

Odd to think drinking more keeps less in you eh? If you keep a constant supply coming in your body does not need to store any

probably has to do with dieting and lower sodium intake. Less sodium=less water retention. As long as you have enough sodium in your diet you should be fine. Same thing happens to me once in a while but it takes about 1/3rd gallon at once to start the non-stop pissing cycle. It happened on a road trip so i forced myself to eat a big mac and fries to get me the last 200 miles home without having to piss.

I love the monkey shot too! lol.... although too much criticism at the poor guy. Maybe he just doesn't know.

I started doing the water thing lately too. It is good to get it out for reasons mentioned (properly hydrating, water retention, toxins being flushed out etc.). The best thing to do is pace yourself during the day. I take down 1 gallon of water per day, but usually I'm done by the evening (just before I work out). Then take in a little more after working out, but not too much so you're not peeing all night. Seems to do the trick. Body learns to shut off the valve at night. Try changing to an earlier schedule.

If you think 4 bottles are tough, try 8!

I drink 16 cups of water a day just at work in a cube farm. I piss about 10 times while at work...in the morning it is yellow by noon it is completely clear.

My drive home is aweful. 30 minutes without having to pee sometimes in traffic.

On a more serious note, the intelligent can clearly distinguish those who are intelligent and those who are not based on the responses in this thread.

The not-so-intelligent read and comprehended: Is it normal to pee a lot if you drink a lot of water?

..and that's it. There thought process ended there, and that is why they thought I was dumbass of the year, and then posted the monkey picture.

The intelligent read and comprehended: What is the point of drinking so much water if you are only going to piss it out 30 minutes later? And more importantly, is it normal to not retain any of that water? etc. etc.

At least that's the way I see it, because my question is perfectly legit and valid, IF you actually were able to comprehend what I was asking.

    Have a good day gentleman.

Initially I posted a facepalm pic too, but I'll try to be helpful.

Your amazement at your peeing a lot after drinking a lot of water is facepalm worthy and your question is a little weird.

If you have heard or read that bodybuilders drink a lot of water and you are wondering why if not for the purpose of retaining some of it, then the purpose is exactly the opposite - to make their bodies get used to flushing the water retention and dehydrate themselves to gain more muscle definition.

At least that's the way I see it, because my question is perfectly legit and valid, IF you actually were able to comprehend what I was asking.

    Have a good day gentleman.
Oh I think we comprehended perfectly. I grouped this question with other similar ones such as, "Help, I'm not gaining weight what should I do?" etc

Why? Because it's a silly question.

Of course it's f**king normal to pee more water if you drink more. What were you expecting the answers to be? It's like asking if you took a red crayon and scribbled on a piece of paper would it come out red? The point that you even sat down at your computer and felt the NEED to create this thread is where the humor is to 99% of the people who responded.

Not to sound like an attack, since ... well it does come off that way. :P

This entire forum (as with the others) gets a lot of self explanitory threads, you came off intelligently enough - which added to it even further.

Say you're eating as you always have, eat and **** an amount X. Then you start eating an amount Y more food. At first you'll be ****ting X + Y, but over time, you actually start to **** less than you would actually think. Your body adjusts, your stomach uptakes more food than it did when you first started, and with this thought process the question is valid. Knowing this, I wouldn't just blindly trust the people who say that drinking water helps you not retain it (though I have heard this many many times as well). Do some research.

Edit: Thought I'd add, you'd probably be interested in this thread about homeostasis, and that is where I get my (horribly worded) fact about the ****s (from neuron, specifically)

Good thing this was about water, peeing, and the miraculous correlation between the two occuring more frequently - not stomach size and amount of food you crap out.

No wonder you're in the red.

You're right, they should just stop studying rats. No useful information there, because something never relates to anything else. Especially in the human brain, no thoughts are ever mixed. People tend not to get ideas from something else. I don't know if I can keep going with this...
But his question was a valid one regarding homeostasis. Now continue on to misc forum, thx

I never said anything about stopping scientific studies, or even the validity of studying rats and relating it to humans. Really? That's a wholeeeeee other topic. You're relating apples with oranges, I'm relating apples to applejuice. Making mountains out of ant hills is new and exciting.

Looks like you've spent plenty of time in the misc judging from the obvious.

I came to this thread because I had the same question as the OP. I read a ******** posting by a bodybuilder who posted about how they drank 2 gallons a day and how they do it. They didn't say anything about having to pee all the time. I also try drinking lots of water, and when I do, I end up in the bathroom about every 15 minutes. I don't know of many people who end up having to do that when they drink a lot of water. The reason I've heard of for drinking so much is because our bodies need quite a bit, and the majority of our body is made of it. This made me wonder why it just gets peed out so quickly. One would think that the body ejects what it already has too much of, which then leads to the question of, "Why drink more if your body is taking it right back out again right away?"

Before anyone asks why I didn't just ask the bodybuilder on FB about it--it was a fanpage, and questions or comments never get responded to by the owner. So I thought this forum would be a good place to ask, and see if anyone else already did.
